Advice

Conley,

I am 72 years old and have been at handicapping horse races for more than 50 years.

When I started there were NO computers, NO internet, NO downloading of PP's and/or charts and NO software venders. No matter what track you attending there was a Daily Double on the first two races ONLY. After that it was WIN, PLACE and SHOW betting ONLY. The racing form had CONSIDERABLY LESS information than it has now. You were ON YOUR OWN to learn to handicap. In those days you sought out old timers that had experience and tried to learn from them. Naturally, you didn't know if the information they gave you was good or bad, so experimentation was the order of the day. Consider that and realize how much easier it is for you today! You have easy access to the man who wrote the software and is willinng to spend time with you so you can learn. In addition, you have many menbers here at your disposal that are also willing to help you if you are willing to learn.

About a year ago, without my knowledge, one of the members on P&C gathered up and organized many of the posting I use to make. This was presented to Ted and Ted was kind enough to put it in the Library on this forum. Here is the link to it. http://paceandcap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11449
Originally I used an old Sartin program called "ENERGY" to show examples, simply because I had it. Ted asked me if I would mind using RDSS instead, since most people are familiar with that software. I agreed, therefore you will find many examples along with detailed horse analytics for each race posted.

You will find that even though many people use RDSS, they do not all approach races in the same way as far as contender selection and line selection are concerned. You have to pick the one you are most comfortable with. With work, you will learn what is best for you on your own. However, the first thing you might consider is "race selection". A good starting point would be the race selection criteria used by another member here, "Rmath". It is a very solid race selection method. I'm sure you can do a google search on this site and find it.

Best of luck to you.
FTL

I would suggest this one:

Conley, I see that you previously posted on Richard's thread, so you are aware of it. Perhaps you should make a copy of his criteria and pin it on the wall near your computer screen. He's a modest man and doesn't brag, but he built his house with his winnings.
