Saturday’s Lone Star Park Handicapping Championship Qualifier To Top $17,150

PRIZE MONEY FOR SATURDAY’S LONE STAR PARK HANDICAPPING CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER TO TOP $17,150; DEADLINE TO ENTER IS WEDNESDAY

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Monday, Feb. 4, 2008) – The purse for the first qualifying tournament of the new Lone Star Park Handicapping Championship Series on Saturday (Feb. 9) will eclipse $17,150 thanks to 251 early entries at $50 each, 36 late entries at $100 and a $1,000 contribution by Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie.

The pot could swell even more because the deadline to pay the $100 late entry is the close of business on Wednesday (Feb. 6).

The Top 25 finishers in Saturday’s tournament will qualify to the inaugural Lone Star Park Handicapping Championship on Oct. 18 and receive free entries to compete for prize money in two other qualifying tournaments on Saturday, April 5 and Saturday, July 26.

The Oct. 18 championship is conservatively estimated to award $30,000 in prize money, and the top six finishers will earn coveted spots in the 10th annual Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship for a chance to be crowned “Handicapper of the Year.”

Lone Star Park officials originally estimated that the purse for the first qualifying tournament would be around $4,750 based on 75 entries.

The total number of entries in each tournament determines total prize money, but Lone Star Park will seed the potential winnings with a $10,000 contribution to the purses:

* $1,000 for Qualifier 1;
* $1,500 for Qualifier 2 (total estimated at $6,500 based on 50 paid early entries);
* $2,500 for Qualifier 3 (total estimated at $10,000 based on 50 paid early entries) and
* $5,000 for the Championship (total estimated at $30,000 based on 100 paid entries).

Prize money for each tournament will be distributed as follows: 60% for first, 20% for second, 12% for third, 5% for fourth and 3% for fifth. First place for Saturday’s qualifier will be more than $10,000.

The Top 50 finishers (not already qualified) in the April 5 tournament will earn berths in the Oct. 18 championship and a free entry for the July 26 tournament. The Top 75 finishers (not already qualified) in the July 26 tournament also will advance to the championship event.

All qualifiers to the Oct. 18 Championship – up to 150 participants – must pay the $250 entry fee to compete in the finale.

Each tournament is exclusive to members of Star Player Rewards – Lone Star Park’s customer rewards program that awards points based on wagering and other purchases (points can be redeem for discounts and special offers). Non-members, however, will be allowed to sign up for Star Player Rewards before the start of each tournament in order to become eligible.

Each tournament will require participants to place a dozen mythical wagers that total $1,260:

* Two (2) $50 Win, Place and Show wagers ($150 each x 2 = $300)
* Two (2) $20 Win, Place and Show wagers ($60 each x 2 = $120)
* Two (2) $10 three-horse Exacta Box wagers ($60 each x 2 = $120)
* Two (2) $20 three-horse Exacta Box wagers ($120 each x 2 = $240)
* Two (2) $5 four-horse Trifecta Box wagers ($120 each x 2 = $240)
* Two (2) $1 five-horse Superfecta Box wagers ($120 each x 2 = $240)

The highest final bankrolls will determine the order of finish.

Participants will be able to place their wagers on a variety of racetracks (limit one wager type per race). For example, the tournament racetracks for Qualifier 1 on Saturday (Feb. 9) are Aqueduct, Gulfstream Park, Fair Grounds, Oaklawn Park and Santa Anita.

Also, there will be no odds cap on winning wagers.
