False error message?

Ted:

I get the following message every time but the file is processed fine. It appears to be a phony message.

Tasks cancelled due to an error during processing!
The last task processing is incomplete - please redo it before using it.

This comes up in the progress box.

Charlie,

If during the Convert process you click on the Cancel Task Processing button, that's precisely the progress message you receive. Presuming you are not doing this, I think some part of the Conversion of the download file to the RDSS database must not be complete. If you do the same card over again (uncheck Don't Duplicate so it will run again), does the same message appear? Does Convert ever complete with no complaint? Any card?

Let me know, and I will send you a version with a debugging trace in it so I can see exactly where it cuts out and why. I would not presume that all is completely well, although if you can load the card, then all races, and if all fingers and toes appear to be there (i.e. all PPs for all horses), then OK.

But that message means something useful. Let me know.

Ted

I get the same error message each day at conclusion of downloading/converting.

I just click ok and it goes away and things are cool

Richie, Charlie,

Looks like the problem occurs on the last Val/Spec file to be created. Can you please confirm (or anyone else with this problem):

1. If you uncheck 'Create Val/Spec Files' in the Tasks list, does the problem cease.

2. With 'Create Val/Spec Files' checked, does the last card on your list get created (look in C:\TRKMAST folder). If so, is it usable in either Val or Spec?

3. When you next see that warning message, can you look in the folder C:\RDSS\DATA\TEMP and see if there are any files left over (normally that folder is empty). If so, can I get a screenshot (or a list).

Thanks,

Ted

What I thought. Can you respond to my Question #3? (Doesn't seem to be failing for me, though there are about 4 opportunities for something to go wrong during any Spec file creation).

Thanks,

Ted

Charlie/Richie,

The problem was staring me in the face all along. Referring to Richie's screenshot above, the Task: Create Val/Spec files is checked but no folder is specified below it where the files should be created - so the process fails and no files are created. If you click the folder browse icon to the right of that input field or type a folder name, e.g. c:\trkmast, then the Task will work and no error message will occur.

If you don't need those files (i.e. you don't use the DOS Val4 or Spec160 software), just uncheck that Task.

I'll fix the software so you can't have the folder location empty if the Task is checked.

Does this solve the problem?

Ted

it certainly does--and that explains why it worked on one of my computers and not the other
