Just curious if this error message / bug (which happens when I try to run a "My Races" list) has ever been addressed ? Thanks.

Why can't RDSS run without WI-FY?
When I download the next days card and take my computer to a race book
without WI-FY I get
Error number 2. Null object reference at line 28 get racechanges
The only work around is to leave the computer running until the next day.
This didn't happen with the last version of RDSS.

Hey Mr. Frog,
I think you can. You might have to go in and turn it off on your machine.
I could be wrong, but it probably (by a default setting) "looks" for a connection. I think Ted said once in the next version, that will be fixed. I routinely turn it off after I set up the day, and turn it on only when I want tote numbers.

Your right Froggy, current version inadvertently needs an internet connection. You can turn tote access off (http://www.paceandcap.com/forums/sho...&postcount=251) but that doesn't help you when there's no internet at all (hence the error message when attempting to get 'race changes' aka scratches).

The workaround most people use in Vegas racebooks and casinos without wifi is to use their own mobile phone as a wireless hotspot. That works everywhere.

With all public wifi, ALWAYS use a VPN (Virtual Private Network), whether on your own phone or the casino, restaurant or truckstop. I always presume folks are out there trying to piggy back on your signal and dong whatever nefarious things they feel like with your signal and device.

I'll get that fixed in due course.

Ted

Once you shut down RDSS and restart, your dead.
I tried turning off WI-FI and then shutting down the computer, no go.
Any other suggestions?

Tried adding Tote_enabled=0,
No change.
Just have to leave my computer on till the next day.
Will my flip phone work as a hot spot?

Correct. As I mentioned.

It doesn't matter about leaving your computer on. It matters whether you have an internet connection.

Will my flip phone work as a hot spot?

Maybe. Depends on your phone software. 'Flip phone' sounds like it might be rather old. If you know the hardware type and operating system (OS) on it (e.g. Android or iPhone), you can google to find out if that phone and OS support a wireless hotspot (or ask the store where you got it). All modern mobile devices in the past several years do so.

Am going to the Riverside book for Sunday/no WY-FY
My phone may be old, but it works.
My motorhome is 38 ys old with 200k on the meter
My car is 36 ys old with 113k on it.
And I probably won't outlive any of them.

Glad your flip phone still works! I still have mine.

You could capture screenshots at home of the RDSS readouts you like and drop them in Word or Wordpad document. Use that file instead of live RDSS if you have no wifi tomorrow.
