Talking Counterpoint

My point is this, I've been following horses since the days of Buckpasser, Damascus, and Dr. Fager, not to mention Ta Wee and I've never seen a more bad crop of 3yos as these. Someone on Paceadvantage website pointed out how bad the 2017 crop was and I replied yeah, but those 3yos didn't start their careers in a 16mc race!
And lest you forget, BodeExpress at 73-1 buried Code of Honor in the Florida Derby. None of these 3yos should be bet against older horses in grade 1 races from now thru the end of the year, Period!!

For the time being I'll withhold an opinion. 3 yr. olds are constantly improving as the year moves along.

Some develop later in the year and come to hand quickly. Some not until their 4 yr. olds. There were some promising ones such as Game Winner and Max. Security that had some setbacks that could be anything. Sometimes a set back is a blessing as far too many are rushed for the classics and end up ruined. Others with better spacing of races turn out to be much better horses.

I think it still too early to write them all off, only later will we truly know. For now several remain unknowns but could develop into great horses. The 16,00 claimer race means nothing as the trainer could be the real culprit not the horse when it comes to ability. Many trainers don't know what they have and couldn't train or would ruin even a Secretariat.

Wink Saturday's card

Despite all this back and forth talk I just can't play races with 5 and 6 horse fields. I'll be looking at Laurel where the fields are big and the prices hopefully are higher and higher.
