10th race @ Belmont
I gotta like Vino Rosso. How does he rate with the software?

It looks like Vino Rosso didn’t rate well on the software. With paper and pencil handicapping with the Racing Form he was the pick imo.
The 2 would have never got past him. Too bad he drifted out. I had a nice bet on him too. Life in the horse racing trenches. |

That is the magic of the Sartin software
It knows when a horse is going to get DQed LOL Just kidding I bet the 2 and 1 in my pick so I was ecstatic with the DQ Vino drifted out to the 5 path |

The DQ was definitely justified. Intentionally floating a horse out to intimate it unfortunately has become the norm. Stewards should force the jockey to maintain a straight path in stretch runs.
Besides the floating out, Code of Honor was bumped several times which obviously cost him the small margin of defeat. Ortiz was bent on taking it to them and while waiting the decision was furiously attempting an explanation to Pletcher. IMO Johnny V. should be on him next. Just not a good ride, after all this wasn't a 5,000 clm.NW2L and in fact even in those races this stuff needs to stop. Mitch44 |

I can’t say I agree. There is no proof that it was intentional. That’s what happens in horse racing. It’s common for horses to drift on the stretch and bump.
If Code of Honor had any momentum he would have went past Vino Rosso. I think we are moving into a period of time where they are going to start DQing horses in Grade 1 races. The Kentucky Derby DQ was a disgrace and a black eye to horse racing. |

They should be DQ'ing horses in G1 races. A G1 should not be any different than a cheap 5,000 clm. NW2L. In other words the same rules should apply and not selective enforcement as to the race, trainer or jockey.
I agree that in the Derby the horse should not have been DQ and the rider ran up on his heels of Max Sec.trying to win at all costs. However Code of Honor can't have any momentum when some idiot is playing bumper cars with the horse at the risk of the horse and jockey. Jocks like Ortiz can go to an amusement park to get their kicks riding bumper cars, or the tracks can build one behind the paddock for the jockeys amusement prior to Riders Up. The fact is he didn't control his mount or even attempt to. I.e. he could have hit the horse right handed to move away, put the whip away and hand rode to the finish or steered him away. I believe that no matter what happen Vino Rossi was a beat horse. Mitch44 Last edited by Mitch44; 09-29-2019 at 11:52 AM. |

I agree with having horses DQ’d in Graded stakes races, especially in G1 races. There should be full evidence as to why the horse should be DQ’d. Yesterday was a perfect example of a horse to thrown out. Rosso was in COH lane and caused the race for him, but after the DQ, he was the winner.
Still don’t agree with the Kentucky Derby this year. Max was just running his race and he got DQ’d for something he didn’t do. Country house ran into him and had to complain that Max ran into him. But the past is in the past and we will look into the future for more excitement on this great sport.

Sounds like you have it out for Irad Ortiz, the best rider in the country right now. Vino Rosso crossed the finish line first. |
