I thought one of the bolded bombs in the last three races would score, not today. It was nice to see Michelle Nihei bring one home after a 313 day lay-off, i missed the clockers on that one, strange, i must be getting old.

Thumbs up

It's great that "Modern Pace Handicapping" is now available for Kindle. I wish I had that option when I purchased my paperback copy last year. Thanks for this info, Paul. I think I might still go ahead and purchase the kindle version also, just so that I could have it on my laptop wherever I am. This book is my bible

Sure thing Paul. Its a good deal. $21 on Amazon. I paid $50 for Pace Makes the Race hardcover last year. The Brohamer book sounds just as good. Plus I don't get a funny look from the wife she doesn't even know!

It was a wild one at Woodbine today, there was a heavy late bias which led to some glorious prices, I managed to hit 5 horses today amidst all the chaos. The Total Energy/Clocker angle only managed two winners today, but the return was worthwhile.

Race 2

TE = 1-2-6
CL = 7-8

The 1 was coming off a 397 day layoff, tossed.
The 2 looked to be on a down cycle in form, tossed.

Race 8

TE = 1-2-3
CL = 1-6-7

Today at Woodbine the Total Energy/Clocker angle went 5/10 in the win hole, with 10 horses underneath.

I was sitting on this one all day, every now and then you get a gift that presents itself. The 10 was training like a champ and had the best TE rating in the field. The 9 was coming off a 342 day layoff, he had some decent works but the layoff made it easy to key in on the 10, the 9 ran well even with the layoff.

Race 10

TE = 10-9
CL = 4-9-10-13-14

Woodbine

Hello Hoof

Can you tell me some information about Woodbine

I watch the races because they show all Woodbine races here at Del Mar.
From what I see from your most recent examples. Its nothing like the tracks I wager. Actually its night and day different.

Is Woodbine the only major race track in Canada?
are there any other major racetracks in the area

Thanks
Good Skill
Bill

Hey Bill

I think Woodbine is very similar to Keeneland if you’ve ever played that track, she’s a very temperamental old girl. What works one day will not work the next, the bias changes as the day moves on, typically the day starts off favoring late horses and then becomes a speed bias track after it’s been raced on. If there is a fluctuation in temperature or precipitation the bias can turn upside down, the poly puffs up fluffy when it gets lightly rained on, and it is a killer on early horses. The poly reacts differently depending on the amount of water it receives, and how often it rains. Rain = $

The springtime favors early horses until the middle of June, then the track levels off to it’s typical bias. Once you get into late August there is a transition that you have to watch out for, they wax the track and it does a number on the racing. The fall is my favorite time of the year, you get some wild biases and the general public never get it right. The season is long and the colony starts to fatigue once you get into October, from then on you want to key in on lightly raced horses and horses coming off a long layoff.

As far as the racing goes, i think it’s similar to other poly tracks, the short sprints favors E’s and P’s, and races 7F or longer generally favor late horses on the poly, but the track gets it fair share of wire jobs with lone early speed like any other track. The turf course swings both ways, just like the poly you have to watch it like a hawk, they have an excellent track maintenance program so the racing is first rate. They are using the TurfTrax GoingStick now and are giving Turf ratings throughout the card. Da Silva is the master on the turf.

It’s a good competitive horse colony without a lot of shippers to deal with, so there is always value to be had on most days. If you don’t like FTS and Maidens, maybe Woodbine isn’t for you, there is a healthy diet of 2 year olds.

And last but not least, every once in awhile you will find a grey haired dude sitting in front of a laptop eating a grilled chicken salad in the back of “Favorites”, he sells expertise and software programs, what more could you ask for.

There are racetracks all across the country, for both thoroughbreds and standardbreds, i believe there is a new one opening up next year in Calgary, Woodbine is the premier track in the country though.
