PF3 (Projected Fraction 3)

Hey there,

When I try to search the forums on PF3, it won't let me, says it is too short or too common. I tried looking in the past of FAQ, but no thread seems to have PF3 in the title.

So, my question is, what is PF3? How is it derived, what is supposed to represent? How do people use it?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

What is PF3: Projected Fraction 3

Dan, I used the search 'what is PF3' (I know, high-tech ...)

Here is a few links from past discussions:

http://paceandcap.com/forums/showthread.php?p=85749

It is essentially the factor described by Pizzolla (which I heard came from discussions on an airplane long ago with Jim Bradshaw) which he calls PPF (Projected Power Fraction), described in great detail by Pizzolla in his Handicapping Magic book, Chapter 7. (I have an aversion to using hyperbole when naming factors). It is essentially, F3 with the velocity value of the 2nd call beaten lengths added back in. I imagine its value is something like: who has the best F3 including how far behind the leader they were at the 2nd call point.

You will observe that it differs from the rank of simply F3 (on the Velocity screen). As discussed in the above referenced earlier thread, I added it a few years back due to a surprising number of requests, though I have not modeled its effectiveness, either standalone or in combo with other factors. Perhaps some here have and will care to share their insights. For myself, except anecdotally, I have never found the need to refer to it.

Someone else who has Pizzolla's book may care to synopsize his case for its use.

It is NOT part of the Supplementary line score, neither is TS+F3. Both these 2 Factors are in the Supplementary section to make them visible somewhere, and consider their use in a Summary, betting decision situation (i.e. the BL/BL screen).

Ted
