harry, assuming this is what you meant, here is race 3 from Hollywood Park today, 4.29

SA means its a starter allowance race for horses who have certain conditions, per the attached

This race is for any 3 YO that broke its maiden in open maiden claiming $40k races or 3 YO state breds that broke their maiden in state bread maiden claiming $50k races, hence the "s" in front of the 40 in (SA s40)

Hope this helps.

Bill

It is important to read the ENTIRE condition as they can be quite different, from non-winners of 2 races lifetime to Non-winners of a race other than maiden or claiming or non-winners of a race in a year or more.
Also, there are varying claiming price restrictions, meaning a horse must have started for "X" claiming price in order to be eligible.
I have listed a few conditions for "SA" races below.
SA = "STARTER ALLOWANCE"

STARTER ALLOWANCE $5,000
Purse $14,900. For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Started For A Claiming Price Of $5,000 Or Less In 2011-2012. Three Year Olds, 121 Lbs.; Older, 123 Lbs. Non-winners of a race since March 29 Allowed 3 Lbs. (Claiming races for $10,000 or less not considered in estimating allowances) (Preference to Highest Earnings in 2011-2012). Five And One Half Furlongs.

STARTER ALLOWANCE $16,000
Purse $25,000. (plus Up To 40% Pabf) For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Started For A Claiming Price Of $16,000 Or Less And Which Have Never Won Two Races. Three Year Olds, 116 Lbs.; Older, 123 Lbs. Non-winners of a race at one mile or over since March 24 Allowed 2 Lbs. Such a race since February 24 Allowed 4 Lbs. One Mile And Seventy Yards.

STARTER ALLOWANCE $16,000
Purse $30,000. (plus Up To 40% Pabf) For Four Year Olds And Upward Which Have Started For A Claiming Price Of $16,000 Or Less And Which Have Never Won A Race Other Than Maiden Or Claiming Or Never Won Four Races. Weight, 122 Lbs. Non-winners of two races since February 24 Allowed 2 Lbs. A race since then Allowed 4 Lbs. Six And One Half Furlongs.

STARTER ALLOWANCE $25,000
