No Left turn

A good chapter was added to the short racing life of a daugher of a
son of Storm Cat (confusing huh?) when Foxy Like a Cat ACTUALLY BROKE
WITH THE FIELD TODAY! This one had started twice and BOTH times once
out of the 6.5 furlong chute, quickly dumped her rider and made a
left turn. The first time she went around the course the wrong way
while the field was heading straight towards her. LUCKILY our good
head outrider and he valiant 18 year old pony, smartly, just guided
this one to the outer fence and let her run and caught her only after
the field went by. As she told the DRF later: "If I tried to catch
her and missed, she could have swerved directly into the path of the
horses." Smart girl, smart pony.

Now two weeks later, and Foxy has drawn the rail at the same
distance. Guess what? She did the same thing dumping her rider. This
time being prepared for her antics, she was captured only a few
hundred feet going the wrong way.

Friday: a nervous owner came down to the gate to inspect the special
extended rail prepared for Foxy (stewards ruled that one more time
and she would be ruled off). They added a large left cup blinker and
she is to break from the three hole on Saturday. He seems satisfied
but admits to being nervous. Only problem with that very long rail was all the gate cre memebers who had to distmantle it before the field came around again.

Saturday...the big day and all are awaiting her next move. A clean
break and a second palce. The gate crew, and I, cheered.

Hard to make this stuff up when it is real.
