5 horse field with a tandem reversal

Haven't posted much for a while so I thought I would share a nice little nugget, Race 2 from Finger Lakes today.

A five horse field with a dominant local favourite in #2 Rico Capote. The nine year old gelding was 6/9 with 3 in a row and was bet down to 4-5. This time though there were two other sprinters equal to the task of keeping him honest with an opening quarter in the 22.3 range. Only one OTE had been successful against that pace. And that was Lenny #6. He had been trounced by #2 both times they had met. But this time there was more pace pressure and maybe a tandem reversal was in order. Rico never made the lead and was cooked by the half. He did fight on bravely to manage third however . Second went to the only other OTE.

It of course wasn't a slam dunk but with #2 already on 3 in a row and the matchup against him, this is what we wait for. Nice prices for win and place with the odds on runner in third.

Happy Matching,
Pook

Yessss

Especially when they are reversals, you can get some great prices as you did.

The #6 Horse is hardly an "ote" horse. It is an EARLY horse.
In it's last 6 races it has been 1st or 2nd at the first call all 6 races.
In addition, it has the fastest average 1st fraction time of any horse in the race.
It is a easy procedure to judge an early horse. Just look at how the horse performs from the stretch call to the finish. It it loses ground it is an early horse. If it gains ground it is not an early horse.

In this race there were 4 early horses with the #6 being on the outside. It was highly doubtful that this horse would be able to get the lead right from the gate and cross over to the rail. In a good piece of judgement, the rider kept pace from the outside and never far back, being just 1.5 lenths behind at the first call. At the second call some of the other early horses tired from their efforts and the #6 was 3rd just a "head" behind the leader. From there it went on to win the race.
It was an unusual race for the #6 horse, but under the circumstances it was the only shot the horse had and it made the best of it.

Hey guys. Thanks for looking at my race. Such a simple concise example of a matchup setting up a reverse tandem.

Hi FTL. I can see how one would call #6 an early horse. Actually as I recall RDSS listed him early. But I didn’t and switched him. The break position is something I pay much attention too when I need to. #6 is not generally right there at the break. Although he can be and was yesterday but too much speed to his inside relegated him OTE. And that was the key to winning this race. The horse IS versatile and in another situation I may have had him as an early. But not yesterday.
