Hambleton Form Points

Ted, I was wondering if you have ever considered adding HFP's to RDSS. I think they could be useful when separating the final contenders and they kinda fall under the Sartin Methodology.

XTB,

WHile I am familiar with Tom Hambleton's work in PMTR, I am unfamiliar with Hambleton Form Points. Are these a public domain calculation? If so, could you point us to a reference, or otherwise provide more details.

Also, what use would you make of them. Thanks.

Ted

Tom Hambleton published a book shortly after PMTR called "Form Points" which expanded on the chapter in PMTR. He came up with numerical ratings for a slew of factors which do a decent job of indicating form. I've noticed that when some members post 2 horse selections using TPR's or speculator or whatever, quite often one horse finishes up the track when the other wins. I believe the Form Points would do very well in identifying these horses and help a lot of people's bottom line.

I don't know if these are considered public domain or not, there's nothing earth shattering about them. Most of the factors or angles in the book have been around for a long time but Hambleton did a good job of bringing them all together and assigning a rating to each. If they were incorporated into RDSS however, I think that you would want to allow the user to change the default settings if desired.

I've seen where "All Ways" claims to have Hambleton Form Points incorporated into their s/w so I don't know if it would be considered similar to Quirin Speed points as far as public domain or if they had to get permission. Anyway, I just thought it might be something that could enhance your s/w while keeping within the Sartin realm.

"Form Points' is very hard to find. During my last trip to Vegas, I found a copy in the backroom. I bought it and have it on my shelf. It is interesting. If you find a need for it, let me know.
