Tampa - Question
For the group.
Is Tampa a Level 1 Racetrack? I think it's kind of a Level 2 track. Thoughts? Happy Punting Jon Happy Easter weekend to all |

I'd say that Tampa is on the level of say a Monmouth Park. A good mix of big league and B-track horses and connections.

How good that Catholic Boy race at Tampa?
I have my concerns. |

I agree with Jeebs that it is a mix.
Already this year a last year BC winner has run there on the turf. I'm bad with names.(Approval something.) Plus XYZ has run there who is running in Dubai for their big sprint. Also a Ky. Derby winner ran & won there 2 or 3 years ago. Some good horses and trainers ship in there from GP etc. There will be some good 3 yr.'s running there in prep for the Ky Derby in their big race. The big question for me is what does that "level" tell you. I pay no attention to levels based on purses or any other single metric. I want a track that has full, competitive fields. Aqueduct may have big purses, but they have a lot of short fields with prohibitive favorites.
I don't care what the horse earns, I care what it pays. I much prefer tracks like Tampa or Monmouth or Remington to the big money tracks. |

MikeB:
Right now Tam, GP & OP have good size fields. Kee opening soon also has good size fields. In the summer there are many more tracks open and the fields get diluted. Mitch44 |
