Good to see you all there! Good to see Richard D (rdiam, at left) looking so well after his recent major surgery. Go easy on him guys with the Makers ...

We had a fine time at Keeneland and I appreciate the well wishes. The weather was great the first two days before the chilly, wet stuff descended, but we were in the warm, dry confines of the Cantina eating burgoo, drinking a little bourbon and watching a lot of good racing. In the evenings we ate at good restaurants, drank a little more bourbon and talked about the races.
Don and I enjoyed having Richard join us. He's a good guy with lots of horseracing/betting knowledge that he shares generously. Thank you, Richard. And a final note ... Saturday was closing day of the Keeneland Fall meet and it marked the 44th anniversary of my first "live" horse race. On closing day, October 26, 1974, I went to Keeneland with my friend Bill Noonan, hung over the rail at the finish line and was gobsmacked by the spectacle. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision to take in an afternoon of racing but it altered the course of my life. We lost Bill to cancer several years ago but I wanted to pay him a little tribute. He was a wild, crazy, fun-loving Irishman who loved horses. So, Bill, if you're out there somewhere, I just want you to know I was thinking about you. |
