be OBJECTIVE not subjective

Each year at this time, there crop up races that LOOK far better than they are, and are, of course, balanced by those that are not so visually impressive, but once you work out the numbers you find otherwise. Great case in point was Giamcomo's last prep before his "less than stellar" SA Derby. That race, and his effort that day, when evaluated with the Derby field he met a few weeks later, would catapult a few 'cappers (are you listening to this COMPLIMENT Harry?) to seriously play him that first Saturday in May.

I bet Unbridled in 1990 BECAUSE he stubbed his toe in the Blue Grass and we did not see his best effort but his race before that one, made him a contender. Many get SUBJECTIVELY overwhelmed when that happens. Remember all the talk about Secretariat because he had a subpar effort in the Wood? Pyro looked great until you ran the numbers. Sweetnorthernsaint looked good until you saw that his % median was more on par with a turf horse. Remember how people went nuts over Bellamy Road who ran over a souped up front runners dream track at Aqueduct?

Let the incremental velocities and energy distribution within the framework of total energy be your guide and NOT the way they LOOKED.
