Bill, point well made, I'm new to the methodology and still haven't gotten out of the habit of using both standard handicapping methods and the Methodology. Looks like I still have much to learn.
I do appreciate the constructive criticism.

Thanks, Mike

No Triple Crown again. I am dining on humble (pizza) pie tonight for being dismissive of Tonalist!

As Steve Coburn (co-owner of CC) said with more eloquence (and balls) - it took fresh horses to beat his horse. Either CC was just getting tired, or 12f was too far for him, even if rested.

His point about the "coward's way out" - to run your horse in the Belmont who has not qualified for the Derby - is sure to light a firestorm, and I'm pretty sure we have not heard the last of that from Coburn, no shrinking violet he. If Cali Chrome runs again throughout the year, expect Coburn to make his points over and over about shaking up racing, at each whistle stop. And it might be good for the sport, just as CC has been VERY good for the sport.

But uncalled for was Bob Costa's indelicate question about those comments to the owner of Tonalist in the presentation ceremony. Over-the-top impertinence just to provoke a possible rash reply (and goose Costa's 'moxie-rating'). Class displayed by Evans (Tonalist owner) in his 'no comment' response (silent response no doubt 'GFYS'). Was he supposed to NOT enter his horse if the rules permitted it, because in doing so he would be behaving cowardly!?

And like Cosburn said - he (and I, now about the same age) expects to never see a Triple Crown in his lifetime, maybe not only because of his debatable comments, but because the breed may just not be capable of such a feat anymore - 3YO in Spring, in such a short time span.

Lots of food for subsequent thought (or a food fight).

Heartbreaking loss, but who did not see something like that coming!

Onwards ...

Ted

Repeat after me "Never use a line from the Derby in the Preakness or Belmont"and never second guess yourself.

Thank you Ramon
Two other Sartin rules
"The horse runs the race"
" A winner has a program"
Congrats on trusting your program
and your decision

Ramon, I agree you should never second guess yourself and in this case I didn't, and picked up a nice 20 dollar winner along the way. Sometimes it pays to help some and hurt others?
I still need to go back and peel the onion.

Matterhorn cost us the Triple Crown

The Belmont was an incredible spectacle of our sport, and with the TV Numbers, Twitterverse, and everyone all in on California Chrome...it was just plain fantastic.

The DRF did an incredible job of posting the picture of Matterhorn stepping on CC right out of the gate, and I feel was the reason that CC lost the race.

I don't agree with Coburn at all, these same rules have produced TC winners before, and I am 100% sure that I will see another one. I mean CC only lost by less than two lengths.

Costas asking the owner of Tonalist the question was a TMZ question....just brutal.

If Matterhorn does not step on CC - he wins the race.

Mr. Pagine, I can't say I disagree with you about CC winning if he didn't get stepped on! He ran a very good race!!
Not sure if I missed it but did Coburn bring this up before the Derby? History shows a fresh horse has an at advantage in the Belmont That is why the Triple Crown is so elusive, its a real grind Especially for a 3 year old.
