Bill V / Breeders' Cup / Good Luck!

Remembering my time at 2017 Breeders' Cup in Del Mar with Bill V. Today was also his birthday.

Good luck everyone with the BC races this weekend!

Ted

Bill's sister wrote me to check in. For those of you who know their father Joe, he's still kicking, early 90s, slowing down a little, though still chasing the horses.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Bill. Remember getting together with you and the "guys" at the Breeders Cup simulcast at the Big M. Wishing you eternal peace.

Wow, never lost a race like the final today. Had the double and pick 3 and winner ends up running for purse money only!?

I'm thinking about retirement from this business....

I'm trying to figure out what happened. I could not watch the video as it was blacked out to my ADW. On the RDSS tote flow and on AmWager the #1 was shown scratched, along with the #2. Of course the #1 was a primary contender along with the #4 #10 #6 and #3. I saw afterwards that the #1 got scratched then ran or purse money .

Some kind of weird gate incident? Looking for more pre-race video. WTF?

Post mortem: https://wtop.com/animals-pets/2021/1...-breeders-cup/

Quote:
EXPLAINER: Why did bettors lose on winner of Breeders’ Cup?

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) — Modern Games won the $1 million Juvenile Turf at the Breeders’ Cup. Anyone who bet on him didn’t cash a ticket and got their money back because of a mistake by the veterinarians.
The Ireland-bred colt was the 2-1 favorite in a field of 12 at the world championships on Friday at Del Mar. He was in the No. 1 post position and Albahr was in the No. 2 spot.

Modern Games reared up and hit the back of the starting gate, causing Albahr to flip over and become lodged underneath the gate.
Initially, the crowd of 20, 536 was told that Albahr was scratched. Soon, it was announced that Modern Games was scratched, too. Both are trained by Charlie Appleby.
