Question +, (+), and 0

Hey all.

Was wondering if anyone could point me to a definition of the +, (+), and 0 race designations. I found a reference in the yellow manual indicating that + was an 1st, 2nd or 3rd finish within 2.75 lengths of winner but the description of (+) seemed pretty vague. Thanks.
