For myself, I do check the lines selected, often after I've gotten the Top 5 or 4 true contenders based on Rx. I tend to do the Groupings on the Rx screen to filter out the noise, then I go back and re-examine who I've demoted just to be sure. Ted

FWIW, in my numerous discussions with Dick Mathie over 5+ years, and I recall in some posts, he said he almost never changed pacelines from what the software selected. Maybe 1% of them? So, if I'm recalling correctly, his stats were based on a fairly rigorous base (i.e. very little subjectivity and inconsistency on line selection).
Sure, to each their own and I accept that one could improve on automated line selection - maybe ... I probably change pacelines more than Dick did, but if I change anything I tend to pick even more conservative lines (i.e. worse lines) to represent horses, and that process usually ends up either demoting horses or confirming their Contender/Non-Contender status. I don't mind using 2 or more lines to get a feel of a horse's ability in today's matchup, but once done, I try to select one of those lines which confirms what mutliple lines showed (for model-making). Tim, perhaps you have a different recollection of Dick not changing auto-selected lines very much? Thanks, Ted

Ted you are correct. Because of the work he did for the venture you& Eric were looking into he got into the habit of not changing pacelines. We would talk about that almost everyday. Toward the end he started to change some lines. but not many. He relied on the 4 number method and key horses so it worked out for him.
