Well, the 2 has a big APV advantage, but is coming back off an 8 month layoff; won its last off of a long layoff and nice works to boot.

The horse that came the closest to leading here is the 2, so I also like the 1.

The 8 might run late to pick up a piece.

From lots of (as it turns out) compromised speed last night to no speed tonight. A pretty much paceless race. Difficult to project a pace here. So who will be closest to the front considering the shape of the race? Its got to be the 1,2,6. Looks like one of these may steal it.
I'll go with 2,6.

2,6 @ 60/40

We both like the 2, but one thing bothers me. The HAT maintained that in paceless races the first horse to the lead would find itself in a position that it had not been in before and would not hold the lead. The 2 has been close to the lead but only taken the lead in the stretch and not before, hence my concern. I checked its race #1 (not in PPs). also the 6 is pretty much in the same position. Looks to me like the 2 and 6 are the only near early types.

I think the 2 was close enough a couple races back that being on or near the lead will not hurt; this horse could wire the field or set it up for the 1 whose lst two miles would be good enough to win this matchup.

The 2 is defending her crown, winning this race last year

It would have helped if there were some knucklehead early horses to speed up the pace, With this group the long layoff probably allows her to sit in good
position and make a nice LPR run

The 3 rates well off that GG Poly line Could she sneak in and win?

The 1 and 2 are solid, Considering the paceless set up I think today the 2 will repeat

I probably will just make a small 1 and 2 2 horse win bet

Let's see what race 6 and 8 offer for a double

The 1 & 2 look like the 2 for win. Can't bet the 2 at even money so will go $6 win on 1 then $2exs 1/24678 $10 and $2 ex 2/4678 $8. The 2-1 ex too low for a play. Finally $1 exs 678/1-2. Total $30.

Practice, Practice, Practice

We all had this one figured. I thought at the end there, I was in for another 2nd place. Not much of a win monetarily but a win.
I have been playing as many of Bill's feature races as I possibly can along with Races of Interest and Richie's posts. From the beginning of DelMar to date I have played 18 public races. As you know a lot of them are difficult competitive affairs with many low-ass payoffs. I have had 5 wins (some kind of return), and 7 seconds. Thats a high percentage of seconds which I take as random luck stuff, and that I am not that far off most of the time. Only 6 of 18 have been right out of it.
I couldn't do this a few years ago. This is mostly through practice and matching. My ROI in this set of races is obviously not positive but I am just playing them all and seeing what happens. In Matching Patterns I have been able to get a nice return but only playing a couple a day. Working on the rest of the majority of races to keep me interested in between is now a focus.
Anyways to kind of keep pace with some of the heavy-hitters on this site who have collectively forgotten more than I will ever know about horse racing is encouraging.
Maybe you don't have to know everything. Just the right things which is what this site is all about.

Improving student,

Pook

Glad your improving your game. These are very tough races indeed. I normally wouldn't play these races because so many have numerous unknown factors and tend to be more unpredictable.

I love the mental challenge of them through and their good practice for connecting races such as P3 etc. Anybody playing these races will have a lower percentage but they will sharpen ones skills. I do lessen my bets to compensate for their unpredictably. There are good lessons in these races and should build your confidence in other races.

A key factor to the learning process is by doing, there's actually no substitute for it. Try learning how to ride a bike or drive a car without actually doing it. The road we travel is what gets us there.
