Belmont: Didn't you really know?

I told you so...No, I couldn't really say that to Ted when I e-mailed him right before the Belmont that California Chrome would lose. You didn't have to be an astrologer or swami to see that. So, who else to wager on? There were no other outstanding choices. Probably any of the others could have won just as easily as Tonalist.
What I will take from this race is the obvious disappointment of the race announcer as California Chrome fell back to 4th place... "A 36 year memory"!
His words echo the Bells tolling on the American Racing industry.
How can any individual horse dominate the racing fields as a Secretariat, Seattle Slew or Affirmed once did when entire fields are full of souped up horses on steroids and drugs. If every horse is zapped, how can there be any individual exceptionalism? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V18ui3Rtjz4
I'm not one of the ardent, lifetime followers of horse racing that I see populate this forum. I've got to feel your pain because you deserve better than this. Your handicapping abilities are like those of an artist but it seems like you often forced to use your fine techniques, brushes and colors to paint your landscapes and portraits on cracked.
Now that the triple crown race is over, everyone will go back to their constant search for "bet-able" and profitable handicapping. Until November with the Breeder's Cups, we'll often be force fed the stake races with the dominant favorites of 30% trainers going at 3-5 odds, facing limited fields of substandard opponents, or the lesser claiming races with the plus 30% "Trainers?" going at 3-5 odds facing substandard opponents.
There is a lot of "unsaid" frustration in the world of racing with the ongoing Churchill Downs" saga (Ray Turcotte, the jockey of Secretariat not being welcomed to the derby, the increased takeout on wagers, the super loud speakers spooking a horse to death, or the leasing of Calder Race Track by CD to The Stronach Group - which operates Gulfstream - to promote their casino), not to mention the Peta assertions against a certain super trainer.
It doesn't have to be this way.
For now, I'll turn my attention increasingly more to the north with Woodbine and Fort Erie (limited though it may be). I really enjoy the perceived style and professionalism.
