Rebel Stakes-Division 1

There were big anticipations for Improbable and Game Winner from the barn of Bob Baffert. Santa Anita had a track maintenance fiasco and Oaklawn Park stepped up big time and helped potential Derby hopefuls stay on course during the Derby Prep Schedule.

Rebel 1
Long Range Toddy ran a huge race to upset favored Improbable who got a wide trip throughout the race off the layoff. Jockey will get replaced going forward.

Sunland Derby

Trainer Todd Pletcher has yet another Derby Starter as Cutting Humor sets a new track record on a fast Sunland racetrack. The filly Escape Clause sets a new mile record.

A horse not to be overlooked ran yesterday on the Meydan racecourse by the name of Plus Que Parfait. A US horse that shipped over who after 3 or 4 races put it all together to win a big race and get an enough points to get into the Ky. Derby.

The trainer said he finally put it all together and didn't like the La. FG tracks etc. Seems more like he found the hole card for the horse what ever it was. Big expense to ship over there to take a chance he may not like that track either.

However he ran a huge race coming from off the pace and splitting horses. Ran like a older horse. His final time was excellent as compared to older horses in the big 12 million race later on the card. He ran 1 3/16 or 9.5 F in 1:58.41 and the older horses ran 10 F the derby distance in 203:87, a 1/16 longer. A difference of 5.46 for a 1/16 F, 6 is pretty dam good.

3 yr. old's tend to be as fast as older horses but can't hold it as long and with Gr 1 types you see that in the stretch. As they mature (if remain sound and racing) they get that stamina in the stretch also.

Note: I could not find any Trakus internal of the race for comparison purposes.

Plus Que Parfait is definitely a horse to watch oy for but will have to overcome that shipping to & from Duabi and also running a big race or prove consistency. May be dismissed.

Thanks Mitch for the Dubai Derby post

Trakus results are current up to race 3 or 4. The Dubai Derby is race 5

Here is Mendelssohn who didn't perform to exception after his huge Dubai Derby win.

Dubai Derby trakus chart

Here are the Trakus result charts for the Derby and the World Cup:

It seems that Mendelssohn was a beast last year in the Dubai Derby.

Florida Derby result

Maximum Security wins the Florida Derby by inheriting the early pace and walked away with a 49.0 Four Furlong early pace. This horse can get a mile and a quarter- but biggest question is will it get away with a 49.0 opening half again...
Maximum Security got the last 3/8th in 36.0 flat.

Hidden Scroll disappointed again-seems unlikely to continue on the Derby Fever trail.....

Thanks for the Trakus charts lone speed. I do note a big difference between the 1200m and the 1600m of the two races Plus Que & that of Thunder Snow. Plus Que really is going to love longer races and even the Derby dis. may be too short for his best. Surely will love the Belmont.

And how about the move of Gronkowski. He may have been rushed as a 3 yr. old and is greatly improved as a 4 yr. old. I think we'll be hearing from him down the road.
Trakus provides various ways to look at a race such as each horses time etc. Not sure here on beaten lengths or if the times shown are for each horse.
