Off the Turf problems
How often do races coming off the turf, STILL contain several "dyed in the wool" turfers, mixed with the "main track only" also elligibles.
Usually, not always, these turf runners provide the player with only turf line after turf line for evaluation. As we all know the energy distribution and running styles of turfers is far different than main track horses (usually at a much LATER running style). IF they have a mixed bag of turf and dirt pp's, the dirt lines are either historically far back, and often were mediocre enough that the trainer shifted to the grass and things improved. Now, HOW can you compare apples and organges? You are forced to use TURF lines for DIRT runners. I see it the other way round, BUT with the additional knowledge that dirt to turf lines usually work very well since comparatively the turf lines are much to late. Classic Causewy in the Belmont Derby comes to mind with a $55.00 mutuel. On the whole I don't care for turf races anyway. I HATE the idea that the best projected pace horse lose often, not by form decline, not by a bad ride, not by a bad post, But JUST BY A CONGESTED TRIP down the lane
