Single horse races

In Follow Up 6, Huey Mahl has a detailed article about dutching between win and place on a single horse.

This seems like a really useful idea for those races where you really think only one horse deserves your bet. I agree with Howard that most of the time, betting two good horses is the smartest move, but in some races, there is only one horse I really like. Huey's ideas on dutching to cover another horse getting the win makes sense.

The more I read these old Follow Up articles, the more I am starting to believe that place and show bets might be appropriate at times.
