Rules

Contest takes place the weekends of May 21/22 (Preakness Stakes) and May 28/29.

Open to all PaceandCap members as of April 30, 2022 regardless of whatever handicapping method or software you may use.

A $50 entry fee is payable by PayPal to the Contest winners at the end.

Each day, you get a $100 mythical bankroll to wager for that day.

One card of races will be announced the day before each race day (first day is Pimlico/Preakness Stakes Day).

Players must be involved in a minimum of 30% of all Contest races over the 4 days. Horizontal bets count as 1 'race'. No more than $100 bet per day but a minimum of $200 over the 4 days. Top 4 day ROI% wins.

Betting pools permitted: Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Double, Pick3
(Please see below for the caps for each pool.)

In the spirit of Bill Varone's love of teaching, players are encouraged to provide some explanations for their selections from time to time, though this is not required.

The Prize Fund will be determined by the total entry fees (plus some other prizes) with 70% of entry fees going to the Winner and 30% to the 2nd place finisher. For example, if 10 players sign up, the Prize Fund is $500 with $350 to the winner and $150 to second finisher. Non winning contestants will be advised of amounts to send by PayPal to the winners. Players are on their honour to pay their entry fees at the end.

The Contest closes for entries at 9pm Pacific Time Friday May 20.

The Contest will be held only if there are a minimum of 5 signed-up Contestants.

'May the 4 horse be with you!'

AMENDED RULE 5/21/22, 12:18 PM. ALL BETS MUST BE RECEIVED AT LEAST ONE MINUTE PRIOR TO THE TIME SHOWN ON THE OFFICIAL CHARTS. BILL LYSTER'S COMPUTER TIME ON THE WEST COAST AND ADJUSTED FOR EASTERN TIME WILL BE THE DECIDER.

Contest Manager

This year's Contest Manager is Bill Lyster. Thanks Bill for agreeing to supervise this contest day to day! Previous years' manager Pook is unable to preside this year due to family health issues but is with us in spirit.

Bill will be tallying the wagers daily and putting up the contest Leaderboard each evening.

If there are any questions about Contest Rules, please ask them below and either Bill or I will answer them.

Ted

Pool Caps - Maximum Payouts Permitted

There will be 6 betting pools permitted, in the spirit of handicapping prowess and not swinging for the fences with super-longshots or runaway payouts, payouts in each pool will be capped as follows:

Win - $30 for a $2 bet
Place - $15 for a $2 bet
Show - $7 for a $2 bet

Exacta - $60 for a $1 bet
Double - $60 for a $1 bet
Pick3 - $250 for a $.50 bet (or $500 for a $1 bet)

Minimum bets for each pool are:

Win/Place/Show - $2
Exacta/Double - $1
Pick3 - $.50

Examples:
Bet $2 Win with payout price of $40 for each $2 - you get $30 ($2 maximum)
Bet $5 Exacta combo which pays $70 for each $1 bet - you get $60 ($1 maximum) x $5 = $300
Bet $1 Pick3 combo with pays $600 for each $1 bet - you get $500 ($1 maximum

Please see discussion from last year for several questions and answers about bet maximums and payouts: http://paceandcap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13696

You can bet any amount you want in each pool (subject tot the minimum above), as many horses per race and per wager, and as many races for the day as you want - up to the $100 daily maximum.

Feel free to ask any questions!

Ted

Prize Fund

The Prize Fund is split 70% to the Winner and 30% to the runner up, based on Total ROI% over the 4 days, subject to the minimum number of plays described in the opening post.

With $50 from each player, for example 10 players produces a Prize Fund of $500.

Additionally there will be 2 RDSS-related prizes:

1-month Unlimited RDSS data
6-month RDSS Subscription

The winner chooses which of these RDSS-related prizes they prefer and the runner-up gets the other one.

Have you ever thought about creating a private tournament on horse-tourneys for this?

Not yet, but perhaps an idea for next year, thanks! Discussion for such an option (e.g. Horse Tourneys) could happen in a separate thread.

Added one more rule to the opening Rules post:

"The Contest will be held only if there are a minimum of 5 signed-up Contestants."

So far there are 2 signed up!
