Top 3 choices

I remember when I was playing back in the late 70's and into the 80's one of the top 3 choices were winning @ 70% plus at all the major tracks.

Since then I have lost track of that stat. This month while playing Parx out of curiosity I decided to keep track. Out of the 90 races 70 winners came from the top 3 choices. That is 77% winners from the top 3 choices.

Does anyone know if that is a consistent stat at all the major tracks?

Can you clarify - Top 3 what? Top 3 Morning Line, Top 3 closing Odds, Top 3 BRIS Prime Power?

I would think Top 3 any-stat which wins 77% is a pretty good start at profitability!

Top tote choice win %: 37-38%

Second tote choice win %: 21-22%

Third tote choice win %: 15-16%

Thanks Richard. Those were a little higher than I was about to cite but I'll take your numbers.

Scott - using the outside tolerances of those Top 3 stats, you get almost to your 77%. I presume those stats vary from track to track, and time-of-year, and race groups (Maiden, Claiming, Allowance, Stakes, 2YO, older ...).

Still have to work to eliminate 3-1's and shorter odds contenders, to make those stats work for you betting Win, or use vertical or horizontal exotics.
