The MatchUp definition of "Horse running with sucess"

Mr. Bradshaw, besides winning the race, to determine proper Running style and type fractions of the way a horse runs "today", what should the horse show in his running line or lines to be used and considered, for overall evaluation, "running well", "does his best", or "having sucess"?

1. Is "running well" or "does his best" also mean finishing( not a Tandem horse ), 2nd or 3rd within 3 lengths?
   If not a Tandem horse , can a horse be considered "running well" if he finished 2nd or 3rd, 5 lengths or 6-1/2 lengths back or more?
2. If not in a Tandem, is finishing 4th___1/2 length back considered a good line to evaluate sucess? Must a horse be in the money?
