Aqueduct Inner Dirt track gone.

Had no idea that Aqueduct has replaced its inner dirt track with turf. They now have two turf courses. Winter racing will now be done on the main dirt track that has been adjusted to handle winter racing. This was the way it was before 1975 from 1959.

Hello Pook,

Do you know whether the track has already been adjusted to handle winter racing or if this is something that is due to take place when the bad weather approaches?
Obviously this would have a big impact on track profiles etc.
Thanks.

Hi Dave,

I read that the main track had the limestone base adjusted to match the old inner dirt one. This was done over the summer. So the main track is not the same as it was. Apparently this was done to give horsemen a more favourable range of distances to run in New York over the winter, hoping that field sizes would receive a boost.

Thanks Pook.

This could be interesting. Hopefully field sizes will improve, but if not there is always Tampa over the winter months.
