Contest Information, Rules and Prizes

Announcing the 2nd Annual Howard Sartin & Jim Bradshaw Memorial Triple Crown 2010 Contest!

Time again for our annual Triple Crown Contest in memory of Doc Sartin and Jim 'The Hat' Bradshaw. This contest consists of the three Triple Crown Races: The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.

Contest Overview

Everyone gets a hypothetical $100 total bankroll to bet over all 3 Triple Crown races. Win, Place, Show and Exacta wagers are permitted. You can bet a maximum of $100 in any combination of wagers per race. If your bankroll is less than $100, you can bet your entire bankroll. If your bankroll ends up at $0, the contest is over for you! Prizes are awarded first come first serve, beginning with the highest money winner.

Rules:

1. Open to Pace and Cap members who were registered and in good standing as at April 19, 2010 or if registered later, have made 5 bona fide posts outside of the Selections Forum.

2. You must participate (wager at least $2) in all 3 races to qualify for a prize.

3. You start with a $100 hypothetical bankroll. You can make any combination of Win, Place, show or Exacta wagers in each race up to a maximum of $100 per race. If your bankroll is less than $100 you can bet your whole bankroll. If your bankroll goes to $0, the contest is over for you!

4. Payouts are capped as follows: Win: 20-1, Place: 10-1, Show 5-1, Exacta 100-1. Thus, based on a $2 wager, maximums for each wager type are: Win $42, Place $22, Show $12, Exacta $202 (please see examples below)

5. Contest Winners are ranked in order of money won over all 3 Triple Crown races. The top ranked money winner chooses first from the prize list. 2nd ranked chooses next, etc... Ties will be separated by a) number of winning wagers, b) how many cumulative minutes before each post time you made your wager. If you have already won a cash prize or RDSS data prize in 2010, you are eligible only for bragging rights (or other prizes, if any).

6. All wagers must be made on or before the Off Time shown on the Equibase Official Result Chart. If your post is stamped after this time, your wagers are ineligible, so post early to avoid being shut out!

7. Each race will have a separate Topic where you post your wagers. Please post your wagers in the format: Beginning bankroll = $$$, wager details, Total Wagers = $$$, Ending bankroll = $$$ (please see examples below)

8. You should start a Topic for your own cumulative Results, and update it after each race. Similar to the above format, after each race please state your beginning bankroll, your wagers made, your wagers won, and your ending bankroll. (Please check that your beginning bankroll, less your wagers, plus your winnings equals your ending bankroll). (please see examples below). Please post your results within 24 hours of the race.

9. After each race, the Contest Manager will update a Leaderboard thread summarizing the Contestants' Results so far.

Prizes:

1. Five $50 cash prizes (total $250)

2. Two RDSS 1 month Unlimited data prizes (Charts + Past Performances $165 value), including a 1 month software subscription if you don't already use RDSS.

3. Book Prize #1: the following set of books (generously donated by justin13892002):
Bet With the Best - Andy Beyer

Bet With the Best 2 - Andy Beyer et al

Expert Handicapping - Dave Litfin
4. Michael Pizzolla's Handicapping Magic 3rd Edition CD-ROM. The electronic version of the book, which is no longer in print. Michael also updated some of the original book on cd rom and it is very easy to tell his updates from the original. This is not the Handicpaping Magic software (and not Black Magic), just the book on CD (original value $97).

5. Other prizes, if any are donated (if you would like to donate a prize, please send a Private Message or email to Ted Craven).

In the spirit of sharing the wealth, if you have already won a cash prize or a RDSS data prize in a 2010 Pace and Cap Contest, you are not eligible for the same kind of prize again in this Contest - but you are eligible for bragging rights or any other prizes!

Contest Manager:

The Contest Manager this year is Jim G! Jim will update the Leaderboard following each race and make any decisions on scoring or other Contest issues; also award the prizes at the end. Please help make Jim's job as simple as possible by observing the wagering and results recording Rules shown above. A big thanks to Jim for volunteering to run this Contest for us! (Note: Jim and myself may participate in the contest but are ineligible for prizes other than bragging rights.)

Examples:

1. Barb bets $10 Win, Place, Show on #5, and a $2 Exacta Box 5,6,7 in the Kentucky Derby. Her entry in the the Derby Wagering Topic goes like this:

Opening Bankroll: $100
Wager: $10 WP #5 = $20 $2 Exacta Box 5,6,7 = $12 Total Wagers = $32
Closing Bankroll: $68

2. The Derby Result is 5-7-9. The #5 horse pays $50 to Win and $25 to Place, and the 5-7 Exacta pays $250. Barb's entry in her own Wager Summary Topic is:

Opening Bankroll: $100
Wagers: $32
Winnings: (5 x $42 maximum per $2 Win bet) = $210 plus (5 x $22 maximum per $2 Place bet) = $110 plus $202 (Exacta maximum per $2 bet) = $522 total winnings (you don't have to write out all the bet maximums, just remember them!)
Closing Bankroll: $590 ($100 - $32 + $522 = $590)

3. Barb's Opening Bankroll for Preakness wagers is $590 and she can wager a maximum of $100 in that race.

4. Fred's Opening Bankroll in the Preakness is (for example) $50. He wagers $50 to win and loses his wager. His Closing Bankroll is $0 and Fred is out of the Contest

Thanks to all the Pace and Cap Members who make this community such a friendly and instructive place to learn about the Sartin Methodology and The Match Up. Thanks to Jim 'The Hat' and to Doc Sartin for all they have contributed to the art and science of horse race wagering and of Winning. Let's honour their memories with great sportsmanship and perhaps this year a Triple Crown Winner!

Ted
