How to best select Projected Pace in RDSS?

Richie,
Since you are the MatchUp and RDSS guru here I wanted to ask you what is your protocol in selecting the Projected Pace with RDSS? Here is how I currently do it. Unable to look at all horses like when using the form I look at horse#1 Best 1st Call, 2nd Call and finish position. I make a note of them on paper. Here is horse #1 from GP 030407 Race #2:
I pick his 7th line:

22.5 45.7 finish: 1 by 3

Here is my projected line screen now. I chose Horse #5 3rd line as my paceline for this race. It is 22.3 44.4.
I tried to choose the best paceline at GP and at the same distance as much as possible. Also I noticed that in the Adjustment screen the adjusted times were way off from horses coming from other courses at GP as well as from other tracks. Does it seem right to you or I need to go back to the drawing board?

Thanks

Racer, (navigation tip): instead of writing down your selected POR times on paper, why not try applying the check-mark (left-hand checkbox) so they show up in the Analysis screen. By looking on the Analysis Original tab, you see all the chosen PORs for all horses in one place. Then you can conduct your relative analysis of how they match.

Re, the Adjustment screen, remember that the Val/Spec/RDSS adjustment scheme normalizes times not to today's track, surface, distance but to a hypothetical norm (e.g. 'Sartin Downs'), thus even GP 6f dirt lines with a 0 DTV will be adjusted by the Inter Track variant amount that surface varies from the hypothetical norm (that's part of how we attempt to compare apples to apples).

I would advise not 'mixing methods' - if you're following Matching techniques, use the adjustment scheme advised by Jim and Richie. Only use the rest of the energy based analyses as a corollary.

I'll let Richie address your matching questions from your Origianl screen POR, position and beaten length notes.

Ted
