New York suspends Bob Baffert from Belmont Stakes

New York horse racing officials on Monday barred the trainer Bob Baffert not only from entering the Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit in the Belmont Stakes, but also from running any of his horses at Belmont Park or at Saratoga Race Course this summer.

Good for him

Needs a lesson that you cannot get away with a bad drug test every time

I guess the 31 times he has failed a drug test was enough for someone to finally do something about it

it's better than nothing, but this only gets a golf clap from me.

I find it kinda convenient for them to make this decision
AFTER Medina Spirit didn't win the Preakness.

Timing also counts. So this statement rings hollow to me.

“In order to maintain a successful thoroughbred racing industry in New York, NYRA must protect the integrity of the sport for our fans,
the betting public and racing participants,” said NYRA President and CEO Dave O’Rourke.
“That responsibility demands the action taken today in the best interests of thoroughbred racing.”

Maybe "taking a STAND" like this will occur about 4 days earlier given
similar circumstances in the future.

then I'll come out with thunderous applause. Not until then.

I am inclined to agree with you but New York may have been forced to wait to make their decision.

Prior to the Kentucky Derby many betting outlets took bets on horses to win the Triple Crown. New York may have been forced to wait until the bets on Medina Spirit were resolved.

Medina Spirit was +6600 to win the Triple Crown.

this gets announced yesterday as well.

Forgive me if I still can't give NYRA, and the timing of these actions,
the benefit of the doubt.

Rice's case wasn't late breaking news.

if this future bet had to be considered (and I'm not saying it wasn't or was),

then future wagering involving a horse to win multiple events shouldn't be legal at all.

Correction the NYSGC suspended Rice and revoked her license, not NYRA

I heard that which I laughed about since I knew she was in crap for it a few months back

Sounds like she has been doing illegal stuff for a while now and finally cracked the case to suspend her for 3 years

I hope she learns her lesson while she is off and hopefully does not ever do it again because she is a very good trainer and not a lot of women can say they have had success as great as her

They were a little ban happy yesterday between Baffert and Rice, weren't they? I honestly think if Medina Spirit had won the Preakness, then they would remain silent.

I mean they would have still had to test just to double check but yes so true if he would have won

The Triple Crown every year get's more weirder and weirder
