I can fly through races on cards using the colors to help me lock in on spot play races QUICKLY. Less than 5 minutes to scan a complete card of races.
To me now after months of doing the same thing the earlies stand out in my head while the deep sustained do the same in a negative way. This is what I need.
Others do things different as it should be. This is what I do

Richie,I thought it would be better not to clutter up Ted's section with this. The only trouble is we are cappin horses not colors, you could miss quite a few things doing it that way.If you look on page 27 of the original Match Up book[i know im in the minority but I think it's better then the 2nd one]Hat gives a great way to anaylize the horses.
1)Look at the horses past performance lines.Identify the normal first fraction time,at a distance comparable to today's distance.WRITE THIS time by the name of each horse.Place a mark next to the time where the horse does his best
2)Follow the procedure for the second call
For me this is the way to do it,I would be interested to see how others go about trying to analyze the pace of today's raceShoeless

Hi Jeff
I'm sorry i have been not as active but I'm having some work related set backs and I want to try to do some more research and work my way back into form
What I do is what I have been reading about in the hat check area
I set the running styles Then pick power lines
That is the line were the horse ran against the fastest pace of race and finished competively - I kind of us judgement but in the money finishes
mostly
the nice thing about the software i use is I can list
each power line all together But I also can paper and pencil this step
I get a good idea of what the early runners can do I then set the
projected pace I then pick my lines with this projected pace
and look for plus running lines from the other horses
to pick my lines
Its working very well
BTW I like the Red match up manual
its hard to read but I learn every time I read it
Thanks
Bill

Bill,Are you using RDSS to do this? The reason Im asking is I was wondering how many out there still do it Hat's way with paper and pencil.Jeff

Bill,Are you using RDSS to do this? The reason Im asking is I was wondering how many out there still do it Hat's way with paper and pencil.Jeff
Yes Jeff
I am using Rdss But I am only using the original lines
I like how i can see all the lines together on the analysis screen
But it would be very easy to write the numbers on paper
I love sending the raw data as RAC files over to energy and thoromation
from RDSS
But thats another story
I do find that typing in the lines or in some cases writing
down the numbers does help me so I think you pencil and paper guys
can get a benifit from that

I chose this race at todays Aqueduct because it seemed to be a good race using both Thoromation and the Match-Up.
To me, the race indicates other then early.
I eventually came up with the following and would like opinions on this race.
I want to see if my procedure is right and don't basically care who wins the race or who gets it right or wrong. This is basically a learning process for me.
I want to keep an open mind to all methods open to me and am not opposed to learning something new.

If this is your way to do it excellent!
Consider mapping out a game plan based around this Jeff. What are you going to do after your initial work?
a) software choice if any ?
b) raw or adjusted ?
c) track choice (to give consistency to your work/reads) ?
d) Wager plan?
e) money management?
When you have a-b-c-d written down on paper where you can see it PLEASE consider following the advice Jim G gave you in your starting over thread.
30 days
1 software
1 plan
keep records
play on paper
analyze results after trial period
Jim's advice to you was GOLD in my opinion.

Guys
here are the raw Power Lines for Parts's race. As you see some are very deep in pp's.
I don't have these programs to export to ( have a feeling they won't work on Vista)
1) Decide after looking at each horse's past performances if they are a contender today.
2) If no throw the horse out
3) If you feel both the earlies shown are NOT in form/contenders race obviously will run other than early.
4) If you feel 1 of the 2 earlies shown ARE in form/contender then the race will run early and that is the horse.
5) If you feel both earlies ARE in form they cancel each other out based on 1st calls and race will run other than early
Some of you guys with the thoromation software maybe can evaluate contenders and throw in the lines I have shown for the ones you feel ARE contenders. Curious as to what the reads show
safe day everyone

RichieP: Some of you guys with the thoromation software maybe can evaluate contenders and throw in the lines I have shown for the ones you feel ARE contenders. Curious as to what the reads showRitchie, Thanks for the response.
When I used Thoromation, I used Sartin recommended "opposite screen" approach. If the race in question has mixed distances > greater then 1 furlong comparing the contenders lines, I would "equalize"
For the running lines. In todays race, I used the raw lines. I used the 2 adjust.
My intial contenders were 1,2,5,7 and 8 in accordance with their power lines.
I narrowed them down using Thoromation and the principles of the Match-Up as I understand them.
If I am misconcepted in my thinking, I would appreciate your correction
I used the "5" as my choice but still have my doubts because this horse is the designated place horse which loses many more races then it wins.
Your contenders seem to verify my choice because I threw out the 2 sprinters (early) as suggested in the Match-Up and looked for the other then early horse which in this case would be a presser or "fighter".
If I am wrong, I would appreciate any corrections you may have. Your input is appreciated and valued. I believe you are very sincere in what you believe and teach.
Let's put aside what was and dwell on what is and will be.:D
Happy New Year to you and all members of Pace and Cap.

This was indeed a strange race becuase some of the key conteders scratched,
Ragin and I were both right on with the (5) but my indications from Thoromation led me to have some doubts about the (5) the DPH horse which ran 2nd. Ragins screen shots of Thoromation and the pre-play screens had the eventual winner in the top 3.

here are your lines into Kgen Thoromation
First preplay
second preplay

You will see that after scratching the 6 and 8 that thoromation has the winner right on top on both exdc and thoromation screens based on my power lines.
More than 1 way to skin a cat and NO I did not bet that race nor Aqueduct.
