Question on DRF SR and VAR

Greetings all.....does anyone know what it means when there is no SR or Variant in the DRF PPs ? There will be a hyphen it their places. An example would be the 9th on Saturday at Keeneland (Breeders') - the winner (Nyquist) shows this at his Del Mar races.

Sometimes there is a SR but only a hyphen in the Variant slot.....an example from the same card is #15 in the 4th race (second race back from Saratoga).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Chuck...

If there is a hyphen after the speed rating, it usually means that meet, something happened to the dirt course and/or turf course. In your question regarding Nyquist, he ran at Del Mar; which tore up its synthetic dirt course and Del Mar installed a new dirt course with similar composition as the dirt course at Santa Anita. Del Mar put in a lot of effort to get the same people and company that installed the dirt course at Santa Anita.

Therefore, since this past Del Mar meet was a new season with the newly renovated(true dirt racing) dirt course there were no prior track records established previously, there will be no speed ratings recorded or track daily variants inputted.

Hope this clarifies your question...

Lone Speed - thanks or your explanation. I have hit several people up at the Form with this question and they can never get it to the right person for me.

I believe sometimes when the 3 year best is exceeded, they don't show a variant. If it was the only race for the day at that structure, then it would be a negative number, and you never see zero or less as a variant,

Thanks again -

Chuck
