New guy looking for where to post ?

Hello everyone

I just plunged in for a year and would like to say hi, to all.

I've already felt the "Love here", from quite a few already, this place seems to be fun oriented, with a little serious horse winning on the side.

I am not sure where one posts what here or in what area, and will learn quickly, that I assure you, but since I am here today, why not throw out a few things, okay...

1. Think back to when you began, what tracks did you have your best early success at, and why there? Was it the track was early speed oriented, or maybe a closing track? Or that Rdss just kicked butt there, it's possible.

2. I will slowly work my way thru the video library, and the audio files too, but do any of you have any other suggestions that you now look back on and wish you had been given when you started ???

3. I plan to do the following in the beginning: I will try to keep my focus on up tp 3 tracks or so, I think more would be too much, so help with choosing those 3 would be appreciated, as I like So Fla/New York/So. Cal, and then maybe night time tracks such as Mtr./Evd/ Sam Houston/Penn, but that is too many, and I must narrow it down, as someone also suggested Woodbine, as it has a long season for T-breds, and nice betting menu too.

4. Finding someone to begin this journey with, or maybe tag along with a few more experinced players would be nice, as I can devote some time to this enormous pleasure I call horse racing, my passion is unmeasurable, truly it is, but my other things such as discipline and wagering decisions are in need of some tweaking, okay some major tweaking, and my record keeping skills are none, at least right now anyway, that will change, as I know it must.

5. How long before I need to buy a wheelbarrow for all the money I will win?
Not long if the goal is 65% or better for the top 2 selections?

Okay thank you for your time, and I look forward to this new year.

Patrick

Hi Patrick

One step of the ladder at a time. Focus on one track or circuit and two horse win betting.

Put your circuits NYRA, SoCal, So Florida in order of preference and you will have your track focus

IT is all about the projected energy distribution in today's match up which is ALL ABOUT THE HORSE and NOTHING ELSE.

New Guy

Patrick I will try to comment on your points in your post.

1) When I began with the Sartin Methodology I began with a program called Synergism II. It was velocity oriented (FPS) and latter progressed to Energy/Thoromation; Quad-Rater; Synthesis etc. I know your question was about which tracks I had success with, but I think it was more a matter of learning to use the programs as a tool to aid in the handicapping process. This will apply to RDSS also. I never really started having success until I learned how to use the programs in the manner that they were intentioned. The real work comes in with using proper pacelines, contenders, and readout interpretation. You will get more proficient with the Sartin Methodology as you practice. Don’t try to do it all at once and do not get discouraged. I do not have any “RULES” on how best to use any of the Sartin programs but I would encourage that you be consistent in your approach to handicapping.

2) As far as reading materials the Follow-Ups are the best for understanding how the Sartin Methodology developed. Much of the basics started with “Old Yeller” the yellow manual. If you find the yellow manual a difficult read Modern Pace Handicapping by Tom Brohamer a former teaching member will help. The advice I should have listened to from the start was not only to read the Follow-Ups but actually understanding the finer points that they had to offer. This usually involves reading the more important articles more than once.

3) As far as choosing tracks I can only say stick to the tracks you are comfortable with and in my case I like tracks that I get excited by playing. This means to me tracks with larger fields; a potential for good payoffs, and probably not too many maiden races with FTS’s.

4) Record keeping has been a weak part of my game. A simple spreadsheet to keep track of your bets will help identify your strengths and weaknesses with certain races. Doc Sartin has said often “Know Thy Track”. Having the discipline to keep good records, staying out of races that leaves you with more doubts than insights, and getting involved in races that you have a good handle on will only help.

5) How Long? Good question and will vary from person to person. I think there is truth to the saying that “The Harder A Person Works the Luckier They Get”. Trust your instincts “The Little Professor” as Doc would say. Don’t Zig and Zag with the Sartin Methodology and you will realize your goals sooner.

Good Luck!

CP there must be a better way, no just kidding, I am going thru the Library of stuff but my reading of things are not progressing , and there are a few reasons for that, but lets just say, that watching and listening are my best ways of continuing my crawling and walking lessons.

I do not know what it is with horse palyers, but when ever you ask about things that seem like shortcuts or ask about ptifalls that you could avoid when you start something new they always think bad of you... why ?

I am not looking to cut out the work involved, just not do the things that could avoided, or the one thing that once you learned it, youwent, wow, I wished I knew that when I started out, as it would have helped me tremendously, if that bothers some of you, sorry, but asking is how we learn, and this system seems to be fun so far, and I will try to keep it that way, and my unability to read the small print may slow me down a little bit, but, hopefully the videos and audio tapes will take up the slack , if not then oh well I will make due somehow, I always do, persisitence and passion, are powerful forces to propell me forward thru a lot of turbulence, but this should be fun and not a turbulent task.

I am starting one step at a time, and am open to all help or critique that you will share with me, as I was suggested to post questions on the board , and do hope I can do that without others thinking I looking for shortcuts , or as they say,.. trying " To Run before Crawling", as I am not doing that but do have the habit of jumping around a lot, sometimes working 2-3 different things at once, especially if I have no plan laid out for me to follow, then I just plow right ahead .

The following areas all have me already trying find out which looks best and what to look for to help eliminate a horse too

Velocity
Energy
TPR + ER
BL/BL
Perceptor Primary

Sorry definitely made reply without reading the whole post
Very good points there. All I meant is if you are not familiar
with the methodology (and only a handfull in here are) then regardless
of the program you have go to the library and read all FOLLOW UP
and all the manuals you will have an idea what most people in here
are talking about. Just a newbie like you man .............

As the Follow Up evolved, each period show cased the "flavor of the month" program, so reading ALL of them will just serve to confuse you as the FU went from Phase III, Kgen, Engen, Energy, Thoromation, Fractals, Quad rator, Synthesis, Validator.........

Might be better to just find Brohamer and let the basics come from him EXCEPT he does not define racing styles on % median but POSITIONALLY.

Patrick

If you are serious about learning/understanding the Methodology/Software/Concepts on this site it is my strongest feedback to you that you commit to it EXCLUSIVELY for whatever time frame you have set up mentally ok?

If you mix in 2 different schools of thought/programs you are shortchanging both yourself and the folks who sincerely want to help you.

I wish you the very best of luck/skill in your work and travels
