How to win horse races using RDSS 101

The following post is a reprint of a message by a PaceandCap member, a successful Player in the RDSS monthly Contest, who has changed his approach to horse racing, and perhaps life. Read and study carefully, then do.
http://paceandcap.com/forums/showthread.php?p=85841

"The purpose of this contest is to learn how to win horseraces. The purpose of this contest is not to try to win the contest. Remember trying is lying?

The best way to learn how to do something is to actually do it. You can't learn how to throw a curveball by watching the ballgame. You can't learn how to throw a curveball by listening to the pitching coach tell you how to throw. The only way to learn how to throw a curveball is to throw the baseball until you learn how to throw a curveball.

To anyone observing this contest and not participating, I recommend that you make a thread for yourself and start learning how to win.

Approach the contest as if you were just hired to teach "How to win horseraces using RDSS 101" at the local community college. You teach one class five nights a week for a total of 20 classes this month. The students are at the 101 level and don't even know where the bookstore or the bathroom is. Taking this approach will force you to work every race card with the eye toward selecting the one and only race that you can use as the example for tonight's lesson. Working races in public like will cause you to zero in on races that you think you can win.

Posting races into this contest in public has made a huge difference in my own handicapping. The results are noticeable between Sept and Oct and are showing up even more so in my real life bankroll."

A Classroom disguised as a Contest

To the above sage advice, I only wish to add, or paraphrase, really - there is NO SHAME in losing races in this Contest. There is only LOST OPPORTUNITY in not putting yourself out there, forcing yourself to focus and be careful, be accountable to yourself to perform at the best level of your current understanding of these tools and concepts.

If you don't understand why you lost a race (or why you won it, for that matter) - don't just stand there for fear of looking stupid (like I did all those years ago when no one wanted me for the grade school baseball team). Ask a question! This Contest is secretly a classroom cleverly disguised as a competition where you get cash and other prizes for showing up to learn. It doesn't matter if you don't win a prize, or break even. It does matter if you don't learn anything from losing races and being in the classroom.

What would you rather do - hang around a horse racing website where some people are obviously winning while using the same tools as you, and stand in the shadows due to fear of appearing 'not together' after all these years of trying - OR put your hand up and say 'if not now, when!?' In 2 months or 6 months or a year - you could be in the position you dreamed about your whole 'racing career'. What would that mean to you or to people you care about - and what is the cost of NOT doing it?

Consider making a request of serious members of this site to 'hold you accountable' to improving your game by increments. I don't mean necessarily pester folks with Private Messages asking 'how do I, how do I ...' - though if you do connect with someone successful who agrees to mentor you personally - lucky you! Rather I mean, start by taking action: join the Contest; set monthly goals; demand to learn something from every race. Report, first to yourself, then to all of us - if you can - what your goals are, and how you're coming along. If some people can win persistently, anyone can win persistently. It depends on what you want to do and how you value your time.

There is plenty of time to work 20 races in November. Consider joining the Contest now. If you don't know how, then learn and practice how to post screenshots. There is an EXTRA prize available if just 15 people complete the Contest - just one more person, at this point. And if 20 people, who knows what will happen ...

Ted,

Why do feel it's necessary to run a contest for people to learn? I would
think if they wanted to do so bad enough they would just ask questions
on thier own without dangling something in front of them.

People don't need a Contest to learn, but I believe many people benefit from the formalism of having a structure to learn in and examples of races bet where specifics of applying RDSS tools and Methodology concepts can be illustrated. The Contest has resulting in hundreds of races being placed in front of newcomers' eyes, and a formal demonstration by several individuals that it is possible to regularly take money from betting pools using RDSS. Many other participants have reported publicly or privately that they believe their game is improving

Undoubtedly some do learn on their own. They either have no need of this website, or they do indeed thrive by asking questions here and there and are well satisfied with the resulting degree of mastery of their game. I presume you fall into this latter category. And not everyone here uses RDSS, but that's what the majority of active members do use, and the majority of newcomers.

You may not have noticed, but a fair percentage of the prizes 'dangled' in front of Contestants are donated back to future months. To that extent, the learning is more valuable than the prizes.

count me In

I would like to post here that my handicapping has improved
since the first contest race in June

I am betting more money on fewer races. I have limited my bets from lesson learned in the contest. My confidence has grown while making bets outside of the contest , because in those races not only am I more confident in my
win bets but I can also use the exacta daily double and show pools

Good to see you guys are benefitting from it

I like to learn as well but not being a RDSS user it does not make
sense to follow.

lessons

Hello Jeff
I feel most of the lessons in the contest area
are in regards to contender and pace line selection
and not really about readouts that are exclusive to RDSS

pace line and contender selection lessons will work with any Sartin program

I just did this race for Cody The winner was # 5 it paid $80
