Mr. Binder,

I see that you have 3 contenders for this race: 7,8,& 3. My question is the following: How did you select the 2 contenders that you posted? Did you go
by ML odds, V/DC readouts only? When you consider your contenders, do their BL line scores have to be within 4 points of each other or at this point it doesn't matter?

Awaiting your reply,
Andy B.

Binder method

Thanks for the kind words Rich

Hi Andy
I will give you my reasons for betting the 7 and the 3

Actually this race is a great demonstration of how I use both Speculator and
in this case Vector ( Val 3) Its been called the Binder method

My method is to break the top 3 or 4 contenders into two half's

The top half 7 and the 8
and the bottom haft
the 3 and the 6

The great thing about using Val 3 is the VDC readout which makes the Binder method
run

The first thing I look at is in each half = Top 2 or Bottom 2
are these factors

1. The ML odds
2. The Line score
3. The pattern of the favorites
4. Betting structure
5 VDC Improvers Val option only
6 Feelings

Now I need to bet 2 of 3 or sometimes 4 horses
In the CT race
of the top 2 in this case Its the 7 and 8
Its easy I have a 8/1 ML right on top with the 7 VDC #1
First bet is in = # 7

Now I need to bet 1 more horse between the 8, 3, or 6.

Now I look at the bottom 2 horses, Which are the 3 and the 6
For me to bet the 6. It would need to be closer to the top 3 in line score
the 3 has a + 3 .5 on the line score over the 6
Also the 6 has a VDC readout of 4
The 6 will need to be a VDC improver like up to VDC 1 or VDC 2
So the 6 is out
Now I need to choose between the 8 and the 3
this part of the bet usually involves either the lower odds horse
or the higher odds horse In this case I have the higher odds horse already
with the 7
My ideal betting pattern is a high odds horse and a horse with good readouts
that will pay over $7.00
I needed to pick between the 8 and the 3 The 3 improved to VDC 1
the 8 dropped to VDC 3 I make a correct choice in this race
my second bet # 3 turned out to run second

Hope this makes sense Please this is just how I do races I am not saying you soul
use this method
All my handicapping has been done in the pace line selection
method I use the best of the last 3 races I only use races were the horse ran well
I used to use the e/l graph as a factor ,But now with the advances in the programs
its easy to use the Late early patterns of a horse in the pace line selection
part of the procedure

That's why after I have picked my lines I only wager cap

Nice hit! And it's good to see the old Binder Method explained again.

Bill, maybe you could use that DECL readout in Spec like the V/DC readout in Val for the Binder method?
