Thumbs up

your top ranked "Ace" loses by a whisker at 25/1 man.

Damn great contender and line selection Ramon.

Hope you don't mind me putting the result chart up.

FIFTY dollar winner in a 5 horse field misses by an INCH.

Rich

Thanks Richie . Tomorrow I will post more screenshots on this race and show with the screenshots how Validator uses the three year best to come up with speed ratings. Needless to say I would have liked it a lot better if Ace Blue would have won the battle of the noses , but my place bet covered the losing win bet and I still made money.

Heres a screenshot of the pace lines but missing the speed rating for Ace Blue. At the bottom of the screen the program asks if it is from Hollywood of Other track press 2 for other track.

I went back into the saved race to show this. At the bottom of this screenshot I entered the 3 year best which was 149.0 for 9f at Golden Gates. For Ace Blue I had to use the 4th paceline. And for Lava Man I used the 3rd paceline all the others the first paceline was used. Ace Blues 9f race was run in 147.0 and he finished 4 3/4 back. It gets interesting.

In this screenshot the program asks if the 3yr best is correct. I went over all the numbers to make sure there was no error on my part.

In this screenshot I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the speed rating for Ace Blue. Now here is a 20/1 morningline horse in a 5 horse race with the best speed rating. This is one of the great features of Validator manuel entry, using the three year best to equalize the track to track times. This screen is what prompted me to do the original post for this race. Many times going over the results for races with a short field I have seen double digit win and place prices. Granted there are a lot of races with a short price too. In some of the followups Doc mentions that a short field sometimes can produce a nice price if the odds are right and the horse is a true contender. Ace Blue along with the best speed rating is 1st in total energy. Its also interesting to check out the balance for Ace Blue and Lava Man , both were 3. The public and most Handicappers will not go back past the first 1 or 2 lines. Using the 4th line for Ace Blue takes us back to Feb 20 06. By all mainstream rules this is a line not recent enough to be used. Like Lava Man , I went back to the first decent dirt race and used that paceline. I really don't like to use a turf line for a dirt race. As long as the public is unwilling to go back that far in paceline selection we will continue to see 24/1 horses in short fields.
