Ted, on the update for today I initially had a problem downloading as a zip file, or better yet I could not run it because of a error message that said I was missing a execute file. I have Vista and I am on as the administrator.

I then tried running it from the site and all 4.6 MB were opened (long process) and I was then successful with the update by the direct opening of the file.

I have opened up the Data Center, and registered for the RDSS PP product with no problems. I have not had the opportunity to download the new product and perhaps will wait awhile since the file is now $2 and in order for me to handicap I still have to download the Brisnet Data file for another $1. I need to download the Brisnet file because of the great free printing software provided by Brisnet and at this time the RDSS Program has no printing opportunities.

The Data Center is great and I am sure there are many more great features to come. I hope that the printing of a DRF type file to handicap from is in the works.

Thanks,

Robert

Ted, same problem as Chris, Error number 35, except this ole fart can't figure out the solution.

Haven't installed the update on the laptop, so still have access for a few more days.

All the Best

Ted, after reading again what I wrote last night I want to say that I did not intend to come off as being stingy. I appreciate the value that your RDSS program provides in my handicapping and similarly the value that is present as to how I pick pace lines provided by the printing of the Brisnet DRF data files. So therefore spending the three bucks is worth it although in the perfect world I would be able to convert the Trackmaster file in some way so that I could print with the very good and free Brisnet PP Generator.

Anyway since I presently handicap mostly one track I am happy to keep doing what I do.

Thanks,

Robert

OK, looks like sometimes the install process does not properly register the ZIP tool I use. Until I can coax the main Installer to behave, please try this workaround to get the ZIP thing working.

First, close RDSS. In your Windows Explorer (file browser) go to your RDSS folder and identify a file called REGDLL.BAT (or it might say just REGDLL and the Type will be 'Windows Batch File'.

This is a little script which manually installs the ZIP tool when the main Install program fails to. Double-click this file and Windows will install the ZIP tool. You will see a screen display something like this:

Name: regdll.gif
Views: 582
Size: 35.9 KB

If you see (more or less) the same message circled in red as in the above screenshot, the install succeeded. Otherwise, it failed and please let me know your Windows version and I'll try to think of a Plan B.

If there are an accumulation of such bugs (and solutions) after a week or so, I'll probably release another update and include the above in normal program startup if I can (until I get the main Installer to work right across the board).

chrisl and dogkatcher: This should solve the main screen error message you refer to, as well as any failures during Convert Tasks related to not being able to unZIP a given card file.

Sorry for the problem, but hope this helps! Please let me know.

Ted

Buzz,

Please check your RDSS folder for the file XceedZip.dll. It must not be there, which indicates your main Install did not go properly. I recommend you uninstall RDSS, reboot your computer, then reinstall it again. Another user got the same error message re the ZIP and did just that and reported that everything installed properly.

HTH,

Ted

Robert,

No worries! I am surprised at the difference of approaches people take to using the same software (whether RDSS, Spec, Val, Syn whatever). Some haven't looked at a DRF or other printed Form in years, some derive great clarity (or comfort) from that, what to speak of all the other myriad different approaches to using the same data and screen roadouts.

The contrast (la différence) in all this experience is what guarantees that life will always be interesting!

As I've said, I will continue to work on getting a good print out collection for you with as much flexibility as possible. I don't see making an export file such that it could be read by the BRIS PP generator. Rather, I'd like to make the RDSS PP generator as good or better than the BRIS one, though I appreciate that BRIS (or is it TwinSpires) provides some extra data which some find useful (and others find less so).

Best wishes!

Ted

Ted,

Trackmaster provides a utility for printing out past performances. It is much less sophisticated than the BRIS and TSN past performance generator, but it will do a decent printout of the past performance, with Trackmaster speed ratings and variants included. It does work with the Trackmaster *.exe past performance file. Is RDSS going to keep producing that file when the new data file comes on line?

Barring the Trackmaster software, Robert, I might suggest that you start using the TSN data files for your printouts. The past performance generator for TSN is identical to that for BRIS, and the data files are very similar. The speed rating is slightly different, and the data file lacks the BRIS power rating and the DRF SR/TV. The advantage? TSN data files are $.50 as opposed to $1.00 for the BRIS files.

Dick,

I just tried the old TRK32 TrackMaster program but I never use it and it crapped out before I got to specify any file to try to print. I used to use it years ago and it did an OK job, as you mention. I think they are replacing that very soon with something modern.

I suspect though that the EXE files RDSS creates for use with Val or Spec will NOT work with TrackMaster's PP printing program as we left a few components out of the new files which were never used by any Sartin software. If anyone can try it and report back, I'd like to know, for the record.

I intend to create a print out facility for RDSS at least as good as that old one provided by TrackMaster, and hopefully a lot better.

Ted
