In Praise Of Ted, Rdss And Doc Sartin

Ted is my eldest son and I am and have always been very proud of him and his many and varied skills.

I’ve always known of his love of horses and when he met Doc Sartin and began to get more deeply involved in his seminars and the methodology he would tell me about it and I could see his growing excitement. He would say ‘Mom, you should try this. Doc says anyone, even little old ladies, (tongue in cheek) can learn to handicap if you use this method. You’d really like it’.

I didn’t have the time then, but continued to watch and listen. When the chance came for him to develop the RDSS software I watched with interest. Along the way he kept saying ‘Mom, you could do this’.

Last July he lent me some of his most precious books on handicapping and the Sartin Methodology with the suggestion that I might like to become a tester.
I hunted around the software for a while, but it was all Greek to me, so I settled down to read the books. It was still like trying to read another language. This is when Ted’s teaching skills came into play.

While visiting him at Christmas, we sat down and he patiently started to explain the basics to me and suggested that I should start by going over past races and, using some basic lines see how I made out, picking first and then getting the results. I started doing this, picking a track (the first was AQU) and doing all the races for the day. Not much luck. Another tutorial with the suggestion that I get results first and then make my way back to see why they won.

After a week of that I tried again and kept notes on what worked and what didn’t and started to win a few – not many mind you. Yet another tutorial (being Mother has its advantages) and more races to do. I was still only looking to have my picks appear somewhere in the top five.

I must say at this point, that I am a total amateur. I have never seen a live thoroughbred race and know nothing about wagering. Ted kept trying to bring this into the scenario, but I felt I wasn’t ready for that. I needed to get my picks to be somewhere in the top five, I felt.

When Froggy posted his 100 race report, Ted thought this would be a great way for me to keep track of what I was doing, so I kept plugging away at it, using a bare minimum of lines and recording my wins and losses for every 20 race cycle. Every cycle started to look a little better than the last. It’s still not great, but I’m getting there.

I’ve decided to find out if Doc Sartin was right in that even a little old lady can make money. But I must say I’m not little and don’t consider myself old by any means.

This brought me to mid-March. By this time, Ted and I were going over my picks once a week. He suggested that I try my hand at the Raymond E. Heiple Finishline Polytrack Contest, and as I wasn’t confident enough to post them, I sent him my picks before race time. I did this on March 15 and later that week went back and did Mar. 1 and Mar. 8 before looking at the results. For the rest of the contest I sent my picks to Ted before the races. I would like to share with you the results.

Total Bets: 32
Won: 13
Lost: 19
Bet: $320 ($10 x 32)
Return: 421.40
Profit: $101.40
ROI: 32%

I didn’t do well in the Kentucky Oaks or the Derby, I had a lot going that week and not much time to play and I cried over poor Eight Belles. I watched the video of all her races and really felt she had a good chance. I’ve got more time now so I will keep trying. You won’t hear from me often, but I’m reading everything and watching and hopefully learning.

For those of you who read this, thanks for persevering with its length and good luck and good health to you all. To Ted, my son, I love you and am very proud of you and your work and to Doc Sartin my thanks.

Barb (please).

Barb, (Momma Craven) I want to wish you the Happiest of Mother's Days. You must be so proud of your son Ted, for the truly class person he is. He obviously is a fine teacher, and you a great student. With your record in the Raymond E. Heiple contest, do you think you can add me to your mailing list, no need to send them to Ted, he created the program.

Wishing YOU the best of health and good fortune, take care.
John

Hoping you had a great Mother's Day. Also your ROI of 32% is good handicapping indeed.

Congratulations!
