Recordkeeping

So how as beginning/intermediate matchers do we keep records.

Hat wanted this from me:
Did your horse win and if so how much. Plain and simple.

I have added 3 additional things that I will show you to consider:
a) Track and race number (to reference winning race patterns when called on)
b) Surface/Structure
c) Our designation of the horse we are betting.

For Surface/Structure I use these breakdowns:
Ds - Dirt Sprint
Dr - Dirt Route
Ps - Poly Sprint
Pr - Poly Route
Ts - Turf Sprint
Tr - Turf Route

For "Our Designation" I break down my bets as this:
Le - Lone Early
De - Dominant Early. More than 1 early but ours is fastest.
Dep - Dominant Early Presser. No early runners but our bet dominates the "ep" horses.
Ote - All other bets.

So my entry on my Word Pad looks like this - Track-S/S-OD"
Sar4 - Pr - De - #2

After a VERY short time you will see weaknesses and strengths pop right out at you. This is ideal for you spreadsheet guys who can put your formulas in and see the % change as you go.

I can't do that stuff so I use my simple wordpad and then look around every few days of play.

*** Doing this also enables me to know your strengths and weaknesses at a glance later on if we get together one on one. ***

Here is my sheet from yesterdays play.

I spend 1 hour a day going through cards looking for horses that hit me so quickly as being "the horse". Win lose or draw these are the only horses I bet with my bankroll and track with the records shown. The absolute no brainer bets. All other races might get an opinion from me but NO cash.

Folks listen:
Doing this will without question HELP you. Here is how it will be helping me shortly.

See my category designated as "Dep" for Dominant early presser? These are those pace less races with no true early horse man.

I am a flat out loser with these guys and this is over the last 2 months. I keep each category stats in 20 race cycles and have set a standard that 2 consecutive losing 20 race cycles stops betting on that category horse for at least 90 days. Well at Summer's start I lost my first cycle of "De" guys. Now I am 3 horses shy of my 2nd cycle and this one is also a loser. If this 2nd one winds up losing then that's the STOP order signal to stop the bleeding of money.

8/24: 4/9 Bet = $18.00 Ret = $33.40
1) sar1 Ds Le - #2 - W $11.00
2) sar4 Dr Dep- #4 - L
3) sar10 Ds Dep- #5 - L
4) mth7 Tr Dep- #6 - L
5) dmr5 Ps Ote- #2 - W $6.60
6) dmr7 Ps Le - #7 - W $6.20
7) dmr9 Tr De - #8 - L
8) mnr9 Ds Ote- #3 - L
9) pha5 Ds Ote- #3 - W $9.60

First off thank you for sharing! This is very cool of you to do.

Just as a heads up my Firefox browser is not letting me download as it says the updates are not secure.

I'd like to see the excel application, but when I attempt to download it using Internet Explorer and Vista I get a message that says the file is infected with a trojan horse.

I deleted your post with the infected file. Did it just in case someone came on and opened it without reading the warnings.

Thank you again
Richie

Best check my PC by sounds of it, sorry guys

If you've got Excel the Betrecorder is easy to make

Just put your Feild headings in a row of cells like this

Track - Race# - Surface/ Structure - Won - Lost - Profit/Loss

Click Row # which will highlight all your heading, then click on Filter(in Office 2007 it's in Data ) save and your sorted

For P/L Total (Enter a few figs in column) click on a Cell under that heading and click Insert Fuction button, a pop up appears with all Excel funtions, Find Sum and click ok
