Blanket statements are dumb

"There is a ton of speed in this race so it sets it up for a closer."

Speed of the speed wins more often than not. DUMB blanket statement but one hears it all the time.

I love dumb statements - it's their money I'm taking. If a bunch of early types are so well-matched, I'd just as soon pass the race. I can't go with the "setting up" philosophy if only because if that many are up front and even, then there's a wall of horses to go around.

I like my horses to be out of harm's way.

FACTS don't back it up amongst the hundreds of persistent myths which abound out here.

I took the OP to mean what Doc would call "horsey sayings" - those kinds of things which one hears repeated and generally accepted as fact.

Usually when I hear "there's a lot of speed" it's in reference to positional speed and not velocity. This comes especially from the talking heads on my OTB channel - a claim they made for today's third at Belmont in which they dismissed my choice specifically.

I put in my wager when it was 3/1 just after they knocked my pick. I hit for $13.20. Their comments are heard at the track and in every NY OTB location. It has to affect the odds. RDSS based on my pace lines made the horse even money.

If one gets down to it, you could say that any time one wagers in a parimutuel event against the prevailing odds, they are calling the crowd dumb.

Tim

facts are the results of events, opinion is the thought of what may take place in an event

Two totally different things

I ask again, why do you think someones opinion is dumb???

no they are not. The facts of many a historical situations are inundated with opinions

Early wins far more often that it should. Find a copy of Quirin's Winning at the Races: Computer Discoveries in Thoroughbred Handicapping and it is spelled out for all to see.

You also need a dictionary

PHYSIOLOGICAL REACTIONS, the kind discovered by Quirin and many many medical studies in all manner of sports DO NOT CHANGE. Physiological change was first pointed out by Huey Mahl and makes up one of the pillars of the methodology this site is all about and in 35 years it has not changed. NEVER WILL.

Charles

Like us, he talking heads are just giving an opinion of how they see the race and like us most of the time they will be wrong as well.

This does not mean they and we are dumb does it??
