hard to appreciate some things
We start out (most of us) fairly healthy and then some real challenges await us. YOU NEVER KNOW where DISEASE is lying in wait to come up and really take all the stuffing out of your proud sails. I KNOW, I had to watch my wife of 34 years shrink down into an 82 pound remnant of what she was over the almost 40 years we were togther. The last two years she never went anywhere without an oxygen tank, YET she still kept two cigarettes which she would hold. (I WILL NEVER understand tobacco addiction). She could not catch her breath...LUNG disease has now taken her sister (last June) and her brother (last September after putting up a good fight with a lung translplant).
I am reminded on a daily basis how fragile is the human being, in both working with the elderly and having recently lost one of my great friends who fell ill (6 feet 4 and only 42) and died only two months later. One of the most natural compter handicappers I EVER met was Alvin. He and I were the ONLY ones yelling in the OTB for War Emblem and we had it covered every whichaway. Just had to go to his house last week to pick up many of my old handicapping books he had been reading.
Believe me I see it everyday: all thier possessions would mean NOTHING to many of my patients if they could trade it for another healthy few weeks. Makes you think especailly when it hits close to home.
Health is the most UNDER-VALUED commodity on this planet.
