Mth #9
The 2 and the 5 are definitely the E types. I don't need much to convince me to play the S types in a 9F turf race. That makes the contenders the 6 and 8. Here's the way I have it in the RDSS BL:
This puts me on the 8 as the highest rated S type. Tim |

good hit on hitting on the 8....
Cap...this is match-up but showing RDSS was fine... can anyone see why the 8 was the choice over the 6 even though the 6 had better pace lines ? mike

MTH #9 6 vs. 8
Mike posed an interesting question regarding the 6 vs. the 8 horse in the 9F race at MTH yesterday. I thought I'd take a stab at it.
Here are all the running lines for the 6 and the 8: The 6: I initially classified this horse as an S type. Let's take a look. He was second at the 1st call 5 times; three of those times within a length. At the second call, he was 1st twice, 2nd once, and 3rd once. In the last turf race, he was 2 lengths off a 1:11.1 and three races back he was in the lead at 1:11.2. After writing this, I'd make him a P type horse. The 8: Using the same criteria, he was 2nd or 3rd at the first call 4 times; all but one of those against a slow pace. At the second call, he was second twice. His last five races show an S type horse at the 1st and 2nd call. Looking at the running line of the race, the 6 ran 3rd a head at each of the first three calls reverting to his P tendencies. I think he ran second because the 8 was the only S type in the race that could overtake him. Now, if I could do this before the race! Tim |
