To All:

I thought some participants might be interested in an update.

When I was in line to register I was right behind Ron Rippey who won the whole thing last year. Needless to say, the cameras were on him, but I got my smile in a few times.

I received complimentary everything, including BRIS and DRF products.

I am one of the newbies. Most contestants have been here before. I heard a lot of comments that certan very good handicappers did not qualify this year. Apparently the consensus is that it is getting harder and harder to qualify. I guess so with a top prize of $400,000.

Win, lose or draw, I am just thrilled to be here. I am currently in my room doing my prep work. I am using RDSS and following the five step approach from the Matchup 2 by Jim "The Hat" Bradshaw. I am currently projecting the times for every race for tomorrow.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Friday Morning Update

To All:

It is a beautiful morning for racing. I know many of your are currently in the deep freeze and while I am sorry for that I am also happy that I am here.

I went to the cocktail reception last night and it was exciting to see so many excellent handicappers in one room. Most are just regular people who are here for a good time and maybe to make a few dollars. Some simply got very lucky in their qualifier. Several appear to be circuit players who know everyone.

Last night they mentioned that there would be tv cameras here and to basically ignore them and pretend they are not here. I think TVG and ESPN will be here. I think ESPN is just here for news footage and not covering the event in great detail.

Finished my homework and am ready to head down for Day 1. Hope some of my fellow Pace and Cap followers enjoy the update. Keep your fingers crossed.

Smile

To All:

The good news is that I am ahead of about half the field. The bad news is that I am behind the other half of the field. I did hit one good one. I had several good prices in or very near the lead at the 1/16th pole. Search parties are still looking for them. As you well know, it can be heartbreaking at times.

There is DEFINITELY a core group who does well. Last years winner, Ron Rippey, was in 2nd place when I left. I feel that I am gaining very valuable experience for the coming year. I feel that with alittle improvement I can get to the next level of playing.

I definitely made a few bad decisions. For example, The very first race of the day was from Tampa. I liked the 6. I thought to myself that I only have 7 bullets and I better save them for later. Naturally, the 6 won at 8-1. What was I thinking? That winner would have put me right in the hunt for the top prize. That is how close the scores are except for the few at the top.

Ah, there is always tomorrow.
