How do you get out of this? Focus. Take baby steps.

Don't start off thinking you're going to win the Kentucky Derby superfecta. Optimism is fine, but let's toss in a bit of reality. Okay? Start off with baby steps. Turn $200 into $400 by making small win bets. $6 to win and $4 to win. If you're not comfortable with that then bet $3 to win and $2 to win.

Double your bankroll before you even think of playing exotics.

You need direction. You need to develop confidence. You need to build a bankroll.

Get a teacher. Or, find a mentor. Or, figure out a plan.

My suggestion to you was to only play claiming and allowance sprints because they are the easiest to win using pace-oriented software like Sartin programs.

Double your bankroll then consider adding other races to your repertoire if you want. But baby steps first.
Great Post David

The following is so true, as for a Mentor, well I been looking but they are tough to find, as for a person, I have found a friend who play's , but he uses other software to win with. I have faith in this one and feel that with much more work I can win more frequently using RDSS, but yes I must put in the time and work. But being a winner is the bottomline, no?

Some say once eveything is in place the time it takes is very little, but setting it all up takes time, and going thru a dozen 20 race cycles takes time, and all the record-keeping that goes with it takes time, this will not happen overnight.

But after the get together this weekend, it does seem some people, like Barb are winning, and the rest of us were struggling , at least with the Spa, as I hit Monmouth much more than the Spa, and then it was M/L 1-3 favs that I hit with, no real value, or maybe no real proper wager control to miximize the potential profits. I was unable to obtain anyone to work races with from the gathering this last wknd, but then...

Gotta run, long hours again today at work

Patrick, I spent time before going to the Spa doing all the races and building up my model.

Well of course we have no doubt you work very hard to be as good as you are, I wish I had the time you put into it, or better yet , the time I do have is better used , like making better use of the wasted time that I have currently put into it.

I do not Model, yet have repeatedly tried to, even took Video Proffessor courses , to no avail , yes that is right I did not learn from it, 3 video's and using 2 of them ffor days , I still had no idea what to do, but not because I did not try.

Still , RDSS is fun and easy to use, and choosing the right races with all the proper Pacelines to choose, then it is pretty cool watching how good it really is, and easy on these old eyes.

Here's a suggestion since you have limited time.

Pick ONE TRACK and play it. DON'T try to keep up with other people. I don't care if you only play it on the weekends. DO THE WORK RIGHT EACH WEEKEND. LEARN, then worry about more tracks when you have the time and when you become more comfortable with what you need to do.

Patrick,

You DONOT have to model to win. Like FTL said pick one track and stick with it, no modeling, but complete at least 10, 20 race cycles at the same track. Modeling in my opinion is for those having a lot of time to do such. I don't model because I don't have time but I'm still a winner. I do good to get to the simucast a couple of times a month since Texas can't bet online.

Dude, I know that you are struggling but take the advice of previous posts and follow their lead and advice. I dare say that most every one on this site has been where you are, certainly including myself.

A good methodology for me is to simply follow Bill V's procedure. It's simple. Remember KISS!!!

Post again when you have about 5 cycles done. You can do it but you must stay FOCUSED.

Good Capping,
Bud

I probably have less time than you Patrick. but do it as I go along with each race. Heed all the advice that has been given you. Focus on one track at a time, but do it thoroughly and take baby steps. Everybody here is routing for you, but please re read all the advice given here and try to focus.

Not so fast, Patrick! Who specifically are you referring to who was 'too busy' to spend time with you this past weekend at Saratoga? I was there all weekend and watched everything going on in our group (more than I did handicapping).

I saw everyone who was there spend time sitting with you, going over their handicapping process.

I spent considerable time and money organizing not only the whole weekend, but also the Friday evening seminar, where we went over 3 races (and not just from my personal approach), where we arrived at the winner in the Alabama (which winner you bet against, mysteriously, because you used not the best paceline, not even the 2nd best paceline, both of which would have gotten the winner on top - but the 3rd best paceline for Blind Luck which of course rated her worse). There was mostly rapt attention during the seminar, but I observed you occasionally dozing (or was that deep concentration?)

On Sunday it was raining, but the remainder of the group showed up to handicap, bet and watch the races - except you, who skipped that day. Finally when no one but my mother and I and Charlie were left and you emailed and said you were not coming, we also then left and continued watching and betting from our apartment. I told you before the weekend that I would spend time with you - all you had to do was ask, and make the time. You asked me questions several times throughout the weekend and I felt that I sat with you and answered every specific question you asked. Yet my sense was, as I was answering your questions, you were already thinking of other questions or not really being attentive to what I was saying. Sunday was a perfect time to sit and concentrate, with few others to distract us - and even (and only) my mother to give you an alternate perspective in case maybe you don't like how I present things. But avoiding the inclement weather was perhaps more important to you than getting one on one instructional time.

You showed me a Wager Decision Form you filled out, totally incorrectly according to the instructions which had to have accompanied the Follow Up from which you obtained it, and I explained to you the correct way to fill it out and how to use it. Yet you subsequently ask here in another thread how to create such a document and how to use it. You didn't like my advice!?

In June, I negotiated for you FREE access to Unlimited data for RDSS (through September 15) and FREE use of the software so you could study and prepare for the big event. Data which costs others $165 per month. Yet you downloaded only a few tracks a few times per week.

Patrick - you have said you were waiting and focusing since a long time on this weekend gathering in Saratoga to boost your game and understanding of Methodology tools and learn from some experienced users. So - how did that work out for you? Unless I misinterpret your post-mortem of the event, it looks to me like everyone else showed up but you, who maybe half-showed up.

Patrick - please re-read the Seminar Workbook handout, page 1, point #4, final paragraph (http://paceandcap.com/forums/showpos...20&postcount=2).
"Unless you employ consistency, you will produce erratic results and will become discouraged, blame the tools and ultimately believe that the source of any failure lies outside yourself."
My opinion is that you believe deeply that someone else other than you is the key to your success. You have asked SO MANY QUESTIONS on this Forum, on the PaceAdvantage Forum and on the HorseStreet Forum - I can scarcely imagine what other question remains to be asked - or answered for you - that will do you more good than the dozens or hundreds of nuggets of advice and encouragement (and days of time spent replying to you) representing lifetimes of handicapping blood, sweat, tears and triumph given freely by so many. There is no one else! No one 'out there' who can listen for you, focus for you, work for you. As the saying goes - you can lead a horse to water (and fill the trough with water, and build the trough, and buy the land and build the barn and raise the horse, etc, etc) - BUT, you cannot make the horse drink the water. That is up to the horse, or else it goes thirsty.

My opinion is that you are probably not cut out to wager on horseracing other than as a hobby, and with minimal stakes, as others might enjoyably bet the weekly lottery or participate in any low-cost hobby. Perhaps you lack attentiveness due to neurological or physiological issues beyond your present ability to control - that is not for me to speculate on - but surely attentiveness and focus are crucial requirements for any success in this particular game. It is no poor reflection on you if you do happen to lack these traits. I once imagined being a professional musician or poet, possessing some small talent there (-small-talent-and can't-sing-) but I determined that this was not realistic. Neither was pro basketball, hockey or politics. No shame in that: but my temperament did not match those endeavors.

One's current experience of reality always matches one's core beliefs. Thus, you can tell a lot about someone's core beliefs by observing their current reality. Perhaps I am wrong about this (or you will prove me wrong by your actions) but I don't think so. I don't know why you did not ask for more help this past weekend, or pay more attention to the help given to you. Perhaps you believe that you are not smart enough, or deserving enough or possess enough 'computer skills', or have difficulty learning. Whatever. Please consider this suggestion: that you pause for a while and reflect on whether possibly the whole past few months, and perhaps culminating in the past weekend, has been a clear-cut, long-running answer to you from the 'universe' if you will, on the question: am I cut out for this?

For myself, I truly don't know what more help I can give to you (or want to). But please don't say that folks were too busy to try to help you this past weekend in Saratoga. That is just wrong - and it disrespects those who tried.

Ted
