I basically can tell who my two horse or 1 horse w/p or show bets will be just from the pace lines and contender screens. I use the phase 1 numbers and the early late readouts as a tie breakers and also look at the segments for 0.0 in two fractions I depend on my Parx model way more than BLBL. As the Guess Who sang Seasons change and so have I you need not wonder why .... |

Thanks for the video Bill. As you mention, V/DC (Velocity relative to Deceleration - or vice versa ...) is a lot more complex than what is shown on that older Synthesis screen though it does give a good intro to the idea of combining those 2 ideas. People can find lots more discussion on what's intended in V/DC by doing a Google Site Search on something like 'VDC explanation'. I have written about it a lot over the years.
But in essence, as Bill discusses, it's the BL Line Score ranking of the contenders augmented by their ranking on deceleration factors over all the segments of the race (how much they were slowing down - deceleration - relative to how fast they were going - velocity - measured on a segment by segment basis). In other words, horses with perhaps lower Total Energy and otherwise ranked lower on the BL/BL Odds line, can get a higher V/DC ranking if they none-the-less show good a good deceleration relative to their speed (relative to the rest of the field). See many studies posted at P&C (some by member rmath) showing the performance of V/DC as a primary ranking factor, or tie-breaker if you want. Deceleration without Velocity favours slow horses who decelerated the least (the simple DCL factor = F3/2nd Call). Velocity without Deceleration favours fast horses who may not carry their early segment speed through the 3rd faction and all the way to the finish line. Deceleration relative to Velocity is arguable the sweet-spot of these 2 concepts - IF you apply the ratings to horses who are true contenders to win today (or impact other pools you want to bet in). Ted

You're right though, it's a tad convoluted. I was starting to get a headache working through it.
