Hi Pook

Speaking from my personal experience only, I often do really well early and then as I get tired, my winnings take a hit. You were up over $1000 after 3 races from what I can tell. Was there a difference between those races and the later ones? Were those distances or tracks you usually do better on? Do you track your winning percentage thru the day? Is it even through out the day over time? My charting shows I do better, much better actually, taking at least a day between handicapping sessions and keeping the sessions to 5 races or less. I am in poor health, so I do not have the concentration I used to, so it seems obvious in my case in retrospect. I am curious though if other people do better when they are fresh or do they do better as the day goes on and they spot patterns. Very brave posting real time handicapping, this is not a hobby for sissies, and neither is getting old as the lady said.

In my case, I am working on an AI assistant to help me stay consistent with my handicapping and take a lot of the record keeping load off my time. I am hoping this will free my brain to do more races and less of the grunt work of record keeping and analysis of betting. I am very curious how other people handle these things though if you don't mind sharing.

As I said, very brave to post in advance and thank you for that. May you be rewarded with some very good days ahead.

Holy Christ Mike how did you remember that? I had forgot but thanks for pointing it out. Good days. Bad days. We all have em. The important thing is we are still in the game and having fun. Also doing it better than most with this methodology.

Thanks for chiming in,
Pook

Hey Dan,

Yeah I think I fade a bit as the day goes on. I don’t really care because I just like to keep playing. Today I was expecting a big score at some point, being the Breeders Cup and the field sizes and so kept going. The day was kind of chalky though.

I did take a 3 month break which helps reset ones mind. Had too much outdoor work to do. But with winter coming I have jumped back in.

Posting before post time is the only true measure of sharing success or failure in my opinion. I wish more people used the Selections forum. This is a site dedicated to predicting the future after all.

Thanks for your thoughts,
Pook

Good job on the BC Saturday card

Your right about posting beforehand Ray, Awesome and I
do that on the classic section. I'm wrong most of the time
but that's ok I don't mind showing my mistakes.

Pook, I think you hit on something important. Posting selections before post time is certainly valuable, but I would take it one step further. Simply posting a list of five, six, or even seven contenders doesn't tell us very much. Any decent handicapping software should be able to identify the winner among a sufficiently broad group of contenders much of the time, along with the exacta and possibly even the trifecta. The real handicapping comes in deciding which of those contenders are actually worth wagering on, how to structure the wager, and why.

And Jeff, I particularly appreciate your willingness to show your mistakes. I've always believed that some of the most valuable lessons in handicapping come from examining our losing wagers. When we cash a ticket, we collect our winnings and move on, often without giving much thought to why we won. But when we lose, there's an opportunity to go back and examine our decisions. Did we miss something? Did we eliminate the wrong horse? Was our analysis sound, but the outcome simply didn't go our way?

Of course, not every losing wager represents a mistake, just as not every winning wager represents a sound handicapping decision. The important thing is to eva⁶luate our decisions based on the information available before the race, rather than trying to make the results fit our analysis afterward.

To me, that's what makes a handicapping forum genuinely educational: sharing the reasoning behind our selections, the decisions that led to our actual wagers, and what we learned from the results, whether we won or lost. There's far more value in that than simply displaying winning selections or tickets after the fact.
