Timeform's opinion Tim

Quote:

Timeform, Britain's best-known private handicapper, yesterday praised Kauto Star for producing "arguably the best performance in the race since Arkle" to win his second Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Friday, and "ending once and for all any doubt about his place among the greats". However, his rating has been raised only to 184, which is still 3lb adrift of Desert Orchid's mark at the peak of his powers.

Constantly unable to make historical perspective a reality. It would be nice to fill in that void. Not all that is great is recent.

Hindoo: undefeated in18 straight, for example against the best of the day.
Pan Zareta (151-76-31-21) won carrying 140 pounds more than 5 times and is buried in the Fair Grounds infield.
Pretty Polly: (24-22-2-0) Widely regarded as the best Engish race mare of all times.
Boston (45-40-2-1)
Buckpasser (31-25-4-1)
Coaltown (39-23-6-3)

Excellence in not limited to the short term experiences of the tyro
