Hi Ted
No way I could get the winner of the 135 KD but the top rated class rating horse # 16 placed Rdss has it tied for third behind the 5 and 6 $8.00 to place # 1 Class Rating #1 Dec #1 LP Bill |

I took a look at things after the race to see how could that winner be thought of as a contender and noted the superior number in FPS under POH on the Velocity screen.
Sorry I don't know how to include the screen in this posting. |

the day after
Thank you
It seems like Mind That Bird ran his best at the best time . I read some time ago long ago that the TC races are good tools to watch to learn about handicapping This one showed me that horses improve and the match up of the contenders in the race makes each race unique |

Excellent post as always Bill!
One day when I look way back at this Derby I will more than likely remember above all else that sometimes you never truly know especially with these youngsters (3 year old horses) when someone is likely to emerge with a very unlikely career best effort. Oh my gosh, what an incredible late turn of foot that MTB displayed this past Saturday. It was breathtaking! And, I never would have had him in a million years of handicapping the ponies. The aspect that I find to be very intriguing is going forward will this horse ever again be able to show such an incredible "turn of foot" as he did in the Derby? Will he ever again either in the Preakness or Belmont be able to sit back toward the very back of the pack and turn it on with such an enormous burst of acceleration as we witnessed this past Saturday in Louisville? Or, will he be a one hit wonder? Major Kudos to the entire team and particularly with Calvin Borel's incredible ride to enable this horse to do his thing. It was an incredible event to watch that is for sure. Have a Great Day Bill and everyone. Vinnie
