Conditions

Hi
Here is race 1 today at Parx, Is this a typo ?
Races were entered for $125.000 or less not considered in eligibility
Less than $125.000 !

Anyway The winner was Bandola who just won at 7500 N2-6mx
so it was in off the plus race win line
It paid $ 7.20

There is a big difference at Parx from the N1-6MX and the N2-6MX
It looks like a strong positive rise in class to me of the win and claim

Bill,

I would definately rationalize that this is a typo. Clearly this was meant to say $12,500 or less not considered in eligibility. In these type of conditions it is almost always the step just below today's claiming price where the non consideration starts. It is the step just below today's claiming price and anything lower.

About this horse.
PP's are like books. Some are interesting to read and others are not. This one is.
One thing you have to be aware of as a trainer or owner is, some other trainer or owner is always looking at your horse with an eye on possibly claiming it. When you enter your horse in a race and the horse is in the saddling enclosure, other trainers are looking at it. They are aware of the horses history. They are aware of what class levels it has been racing at and how it has performed. They are looking at the horse's physical appearance, looking for signs of injury.

In the case of this horse, there is a break in racing of almost a year between lines 4 and 5. WHY? The only logical answer is "injury". When looking back at the class level this horse was running at before the time off, those "OC" races with a "NW2X or NW3X" conditions are tough conditions.

When they brought the horse back (line 4) this is a "let's see where the horse is at" race. They "pick" a class level and see how the horse performs. At this point the big drop in class doesn't bother them too much because it is likely no one will claim the horse coming off a year layoff. The horse was eligible for a NW4L condition and that is where they put it. A correct move.

They must have been satisfied with how the horse came out of the race "physically" because they raised the horse right up from $7,500 to $12,500 in its' next race, again, vs. NW4L. The horse won.

In its' next race they raised the horse again to $16,500 against NW16MX, again a good move. The horse was off for almost a year and has been making steady progress since its' return. The next logical condition is the NW16MX and it's steady progress seems to warrant another raise in class, given its' back class. Although the horse did not win, that certainly wasn't a bad race.

Now comes the confusing part, to me. Why would they drop this horse down to $7,500 in its' last race. The fact that the condition is NW26MX doesn't matter. It's the $7,500 that bothers me. Like I said at the beginning, someone is always watching your horse! Look at this horses PP's. There isn't a bad race on the page. Perhaps these people thought they would be real "slick" and drop the horse down again, giving the appearance that something may have gone wrong with the horse. But other trainers looking at your horse know what to look for!! I guess they weren't as slick as they thought. Someone claimed their horse and moved it right up to $16,000 and won. The purse today was $27,000. The new owner covered their claim for $7,500 twice over. NICE CLAIM!!
